What are you happy about right now?

What am I happy about? What am I not happy about? I'm about to be a married man, taking the lovely freezehappy to the altar. A metaphorical altar, I think, though you never can tell with a charmed one. Tying the knot for the first time in a thousand thirty years, receiving all the proper attention from all the proper ( Read more... )

Our abortive engagement notwithstanding, Todd, I assure you I have no interest in handling your jewelry.

Entertainment, on the other hand, I'll happily organize. Would you like something festive?

I'd like something quiet actually.

And predominantly male. The company I mean. Not the entertainment.

I don't actually like many men, though, aside from Bruce Springsteen and, apparently, you. And Bruce is off doing good deeds, or so Clarence says. So --

isn't drinks at a strip club sort of the usual thing?

*raises eyebrows* You're requesting the usual thing. Dear God, what's wrong?

Well, getting married is pretty fucking conventional, isnt' it?

I mean -- just to one woman. Even if she is a charmed one.

Whatever logistical capabilities I have are at your disposal, caro. I just hope they have nothing to do with preparing turkey.

"You don't do turkey? I thought you were at the first Thanksgiving, or some nonsense."

He smiles and leans back in the chair, prepared to show off his unshakeably good mood, to let her know how very sanguine he is about the prospect of this upcoming marriage.

"Actually, the logistical thing is about the wedding. It seems I need somebody to fill the role of -- well, I'm not sure what the politically correct term would be. You know what I'm talking about --" he prompts.

"Darling, I did turkey. This Thanksgiving. For Kara and friends. The survivors are still counting themselves lucky, though I have to say I blame Cordelia. She was the one who blew up the microwave, and I did have salmon snacks prepared in advance, just to be safe."

She smiles.

"Next year? I'm going to insist we go to a Turkish bath instead."

As for his prompt -

"...you're not expecting me to snatch you from the altar to elope with you, are you?"

She's kidding, mostly.

"Hm. Best man?"

"Ahh, yes. Thanksgiving would be the holiday I spent recuperating from my adventure with --" Your son's little boyfriend would be pushing it -- "Mr. Osborn's trigger happy functionaries". Not that he actually needed to recuperate, as Darla knows, but it did provide a good excuse for a vacation.

"And of course, darling, if you still want to marry us -- But, yes. It turns out I don't actually know many men. Or I don't like them, anyway. Except Alan, for some reason, and I don't trust him either handling my jewelry or speaking in public. I wouldn't insist you wear a tie and tails, of course -- although it wouldn't be a bad look on you, if I do say so."
