Ah, one of many holidays from around this time of season. It's Christmas! Aside from religious implications, it is usually celebrated as a holiday to spend with your loved ones.

The stocking tradition comes from a very old tradition in one of the countries. They taught their children to leave their shoes out on the porch for St. Nikolaus, a character that personifies the holiday spirit and cheer, to leave candy in.

I haven't heard about a purple prowler, however. Most interpretations of St. Nikolaus or "Santa Claus" depict him as wearing red clothing.

As always, you prove yourself to be an unequaled font of wisdom, Cynthia. Although I assume this to be only a minute summation of the entirety of the customs involved as well as their history, it does shed some light on the matter, particularly regarding the hanging of leggings.

I am, however, surprised by the idea of an individual clad in red being an accepted representation of an important individual. Not only that, but he represents things such as cheer and generosity?

There are many, many traditions involved in any given human holiday.

Well, if I'm not mistaken, there's a caste system in your world based on blood color? Since there's no such caste system in place for humans, colors tend not to have any sort of social implication. The only real difference is the vibrance of one's clothes being a sign of wealth, and that has phased out as color dyes for clothing have gotten cheaper and more easily accessible.

Instead, colors like red are typically deemed 'warm' and 'comforting', if not 'passionate'. There is a lot of study in color theory, and how humans subconsciously react to each color.

The colors associated with wealth and stature in my culture would be those of blue and purple, as well as my own, although for entirely unique reasons; red would be the lowest of all classes, which is why someone openly wearing the color and spreading such alien--to us Alternians--concepts as joy and compassion is so shocking.

Although the image does remind me of a certain individual...

[Oh hey, it's that troll lady again.]

It's Christmas, of course! Time to break out the gifts and crappy handmade sweaters!

So as I understand it, it is customary to not only give gifts, but clothing in particular?

Yup! Clothing counts as gifts too after all. Parents usually give them when they're being lame, but I don't have parents so it's been a while in my case.

You do not have parents, dear? I thought that was a standard thing in human society.

There seems to be a very large amount of strange customs associated with Christmas, doesn't there?

I cannot say that I know much in regards to this 'Christmas', but from what I have heard thus far, it seems to be a very endearing celebration.

I agree. It's a little noisy and very messy, but most people seem to be having a lot of fun with it.

I am happy to see you with such positivity, considering the morose topic of our previous conversation, little one.

They're called stockings! You hang them up so when Santa comes, he can fill them up with presents for you.
