Odds and ends ~~~ grabbing my chance to update.

I wrote an angry email to lj yesterday complaining about the inability to post or comment and they said there was nothing they could do on an individual basis and other "techno-geek" babble. But today, it seems to be working. So......I'm updating with nothing much to say, just becuase it's working. I went to my nephew James' house and I noticed an ( Read more... )

I can relate to a lot of what you posted. It seems that the cares of the world are just released at the beginning of any service - Vespers, Akathist, Orthros, Liturgy. I wish that there were services each day! I need them.

And I can also relate that sometimes the meaningful services have been those when few have attended. For me it is probably due to my weakness in concentration but whatever it is, they have been opportunities and gifts.

Enjoy the fast.

I suppose the Vespers with no one there were a little less stressful being the only one doing the responses I could get a little self-conscious. In the beginning when I said I was self-conscious chanting in front of people Fr. Victor just smiled and said, "It's good for your humility." But aside from that they were more intimate and the chanting was hardly above a whisper and I was able to really concentrate on the Psalms and readings.

Sorry to hear about the heel spur...what's the treatment for that?

I wish Fr. Victor would keep the Vespers during the summer. Even if few people show up, it's still very good to have 'em (especially at the Cathedral, of all places).

Also, that's good news about James. :) I've been wondering what he's up to! Maybe when school is out he'll be able to come back to church with you?

So far the treatmant for the spurs will be a really good pair of shoes with a thick heel pad, then maybe an insert too.

I'll talk to Fr. Victor about keeping the Vespers, and when I think about it, in the beginning when we started them, he said he didn't care if anyone showed up or not, so maybe we will still have them.

James and his family have moved and he has a friend next door that keeps him occupied, but my plan is to get him back to Vespers during the summer.

I have heel spurs too. They finally seem to have grown long enough that they don't hurt, but for a few years there they were awfully painful. It seems that everyone in my family has them.

What do you mean "they have grown long enough"? I don;t know enough about them but it seems if they were longer they would hurt more. But at least there's hope.

Those mountains in the background of your pictures look good.

when they first start out, they are sharp little points of bone, and you are walking around with the flesh of your heel pressed between the ground and the sharp point (ouch!). As they grow longer, they curve forward, so that the curved blunt survace faces down, which, though it can still get uncomfortable, isn't nearly as painful as the sharp part is. It looks very strange on x-rays, too. I broke my ankle a couple years ago, and had the chance to see the bone spur on my heel--it looks like a sharp, pointed little horn poking out of the heel bone--very impressive ( ... )

also--though the dr probably told you--look for shoes that are rigid. You don't want shoes that are so soft that you can twist them side to side. The more supportive they are, the less strain there is on the muscles which attach to the heel, and the less swelling and pain there will be in there.

Thanks...I hope your spurs are behaving :)

the first thing the Doc recommended was new shoes...I have to confess to buying cheap shoes most of my life and wearing them down to the ground so perhaps it's time to start buying really good shoes. He recommended "New Balance" and others have recommended "Rockports". I work in an office and need shoes that look reasonably "dress-up".
