When you say "jug of wine," how large a vessel are we talking about?
I drink fast, too, and then I crash and burn pretty early. I need to discover my ideal inebriation plateau (the point at which I feel the click) and strive to stay there.
But Guinness is so GOOD.

To my dismay, I discovered that the way (for me) to be able to drink more than 2-3 beers and not be out of commission is to drink--I can't believe I'm writing this--PBR. I guess low alcohol content is the trick. It does, however, create the problem of numerous bathroom visits. The other option is one beer drank slowly. In this case its got to be something that tastes good at multiple temps. PBR is only acceptable when extremely cold.

When I'm looking for low alcohol content, I steer toward Budweiser Select. It's not that horrible.
But I am seriously hooked on Guinness.

Carlo Rossi Chianti. Comes in the economical 4 liter jug. $10.99. And surprisingly doesn't give me much of a hangover.
