Sure, I can't say that he wasn't honorable to some extend but all in all he wasn't that great. We could have had a better pope and I really hope there'll be some change now.
If you really want to know why I'm disagreeing about him being that great a being, first off I see that whole religious aspect in another light since I feel in no way related to the catholic church (or any kind of church or religion at all) and may even have some prejudices due to certain circumstances. BUT, I do know that this great pope opposed the use of condoms vehemently, resulting in AIDS spreading even faster than it was before because people believing in these teachings, teachings that hold absolutely NO value for a world like the one we're living in.
Also and that's one reason I feel personally attacked by the catholic church, John Paul II fought back ANY kind of improvements of the women's situation in the catholic church. He strictly was against women as priests ( ... )

but yes i'm hoping that the next pope will be more "liberal", possibly modernize the church and its views...but i hope that in terms of world peace, he'll continue in the old pope's legacy.
