this layout is S1, and the one you have up right now is S2, is it not? you can switch that on the first 'customize journal' page.

yeah it is, i switched it back after trying this one and it not working. everything works except for the white - it's all gray. weird.

well, you have a website defined, so it's not that. are you sure the layout styles are set to Generator? other than that, I really have no clue what that could be :[

just a quick question - is there a way I can add a header to this?

oh yeah, definitely. you make your header your background image & no repeating, and also under the body section, change the 'margin-top' the the length of your header. does that make sense? let me know if I sound like I'm speaking a foreign language :]
