I totally agree with that statement. I'm the opposite, I just can't small talk--it doesn't work for me, and I find it impossible to communicate with people at parties, or even with people who do small talk a lot.

its awesome to have a real conversation with someone. it got to the point where i was making so much small talk at parties that, when i had a long, equally-inputted conversation with someone who wasn't wasted drunk or high, i felt this sense of...adrenalin almost. it got me stoked.

Being at home is a real test for the move beyond small talk.
I've been trying to ask people more questions about their lives in order to get beyond the 'you don't live here anymore' surface stuff. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
