don't take a study hall, unless you have to...
not that there's anything wrong w/ study halls, there's just a bunch of classes you can take (like music theory) where you don't do anything, get an A, and it looks better on a transcript than "study hall".

and whether or not you take physics depends on what you think you might want your career to be.
Say, if you KNOW you want to be a dr, or pharmacist or something, yeah...go ahead and take it
but if you know for sure you want to be a teacher..or a nurse..or something, i can't imagine it would be worth it.

Classes - my take on it cml7u February 28 2003, 22:04:16 UTC
There were only 2 people in my DC precal class. I love it
Calculus was my 2nd favorite class my senior year. I loved it. Yes, it was hard.
I think I'm the only person alive that likes Mrs. Britton as a teacher.

I agree with lindsey. Do not take a study hall. Ever

Everyone I've talked to loved physics. I dunno tho. Being an English major - I don't have much use for it. Its very "science"

Chemistry is the devil

Mrs. McKnight/Mcguire was an inspiration to me and was a huge decision-making factor when I chose my major. I loved her. I learned more from her than anyone. I have yet to have a better teacher - for anything. She totally changed how I look at everything. I HIGHLY suggest you take her class - whatever the title. Everyone that had Ms. Thomas liked her too.

I've heard good things about the SAT prep class.

I hated DC government but I love having all of those classes out of the way. I took all of the DC classes and now I'm a sophomore instead of a freshman b/c all of the credits transfered.

GOod luck!

i am just opposite from what chels lyndsie(sp?) and elizabeth said but i am also just still in high school so wahteveri guess.....honors chemistry is a joke just take it you learn nothing and you still get high grades if she likes you so whatever i guess ap history i have learned alot in that class its like i am just starting to learn in there because all of my other history teachers were a joke....pre cal i hate it i cant stand it i make a's but i struggle only becuase i hate math.....and the study hall thing you might want to talk to mr.griffith about that because he toldme that if you are worried about high school class rank that would be better than a 3.0 or whatever it is you get in music theory or other elective classes that would bring you down or something however i take a study hall this year and I HATE IT its the most boring thing i have ever subjected myself to

on another note you could just do like im doing i am gonna drop out of school becuase it stresses me the hell out lol just kidding

Lindsey- I think the only reason I would take a study hall is because like Deidra said below is that Music Theory counts as a 4.0 class and could bring my GPA down. But then again, if my GPA is a little lower they might take in consideration that I was taking other classes as well. As far as Physics go, I have no idea what I'm going to do because I wouldn't mind being a pharmacist or a teacher. I guess I can wait and decide when that times comes. I still have a little while ;) Thanks though ( ... )

See, we didn't have the 3.0 scale, the 4.0 scale, blah blah. :o)
We only had one grading scale to worry about.
How does it work?

I don't know if I even know it right... But here's how I think it is..

All AP, DC classes are on a 5.0
All Honors classes are on 4.5
All regular classes are on 4.0

So grades are based on a 5.0 scale.. For me, later on taking music theory or a computer class would be a 4.0 and a study hall wouldn't even count. So actually, a study hall will help my GPA but one of those classes would look better on my college application... I'm not really sure how Governor's School classes are added in.. Stupid school... lol

Now that I have the facts... :o) lindseyrae March 1 2003, 15:33:42 UTC
Ok..I'm still in favor of not taking study halls :o) , and here's why.
When colleges get your transcript, they're not only going to see your GPA, they're going to see the classes you took to get it. And when they see a 4.78 (or whatever) GPA and more than one study hall they're going to say "So what. Sure she's got a high GPA, but she's taking study halls."
Now..if you take something else, it may bring your GPA down, but I promise..colleges look closely at the classes you've taken and how much you've challenged yourself.

I would avoid a study hall, but at the same time if you're aiming for Valedictorian supposedly it's better, b/c a 4.0 class counts against you. You can take Physics as a junior if you'd like; it's not hard at all. It coincides with pre-cal, so you'll have the math part covered. Or, if you're trying to boost your GPA you could take a Gov. School class. They do offer AP French 4 and 5. It's a two year program, and you take the AP test during the end of your senior year. Personally, I love that class. It's not extremely hard, and Ms. Thomas is always willing to help you out. No one in my class has ever made below a B. AP Cal *whew*, I won't lie, it's not been easy. The entire class struggled, but everyone made at least a B for the semester. I'm currently taking AP English, so of course I recommend it, but DC English is just as good I'm sure. It's a Lit class (AP), so there is quite a bit to read, and you will learn to write analytical essays. As far as writing goes, I've always been horrible at it, but Ms. Thomas has really ( ... )

I doubt I take French next year, but I'm thinking about taking AP English. We're analyzing some poems in French now and I'm clueless. So a plus with her class would definetly be to help write better papers and analyze stuff. And considering I have never had a decent English teacher in my life; that would definetly be a good class to take... Everything will work out.. I just need to figure out what I want to take and what will help me later on...

Thanks a bunch!!
