That whole list is like a chronicle of my AM Radio life. Try this version of "Seasons in the Sun":

We had joy, we had fun
We went streaking in the sun
But the rocks that we climbed
Were too hard on my behind.

Other classic 70s depression/death songs: "Alone Again, Naturally" and "Delta Dawn": And did I hear you say / He was a-meetin' you here today / To take you to his mansion in the skyyyyy... And LN James' favorite Helen Reddy song, "Angie Baby." Or "Billy, Don't Be a Hero." Or...anything on Don McLean's first album! God, my sister tortured me with that thing!

Hmmm. Maybe you should just listen to some ABBA, sweetie.

Um, I realized I can make a whole list just using Ani songs. How sadly folk-lesbian is that of me?

"Welcome to:"
(A song that opens with
"welcome to:
no amount of stoned makes you feel ok
welcome to:
this year's alone - brought to you by christmas day
welcome to:
the darkness into which prayin people pray" kinda has no way to go but up. Or so you'd think.)

"Bodily"
(from that bomb shell moon in yet another lovely dress
to the deep mahogany sheen of a roach
i am trying to take an appreciative approach
to life in your wake
i focus on the quiet now
and occasionally i'll fall asleep somehow
and emptiness has its solace
in that there's nothing left to take)

"I Know This Bar"
(This is an odd one - it's a snapshot of a place, a time - an old familiarity's tug you can't escape, even though you're so glad you're not at that place, that time anymore. Or maybe I just only get to listen to it after I've had that fifth, maudlin beer.
i know this song ( ... )
