Don't think there's really any advice I can give for being more socially out there and getting to know people.
As for your established group of friends, yeah, it'll take some time for "Oh yeah, Sara's not in Toronto" to get stuck in our brains, but I don't really feel our social group is any more fragmented with you back in it than with you gone. I never perceive you as interacting in a social way any more akwardly than I myself do, and I seem to do ok minus the now and again blunder. Maybe you just need more confidence?
Regardless, I'm glad you're back and I hope we can be close friends as ever. We're kindred spirits, and distance never hurt that at all, IMO. If I do seem distant at times, it's nothing personal. I'm obsessed with my education, as I'm sure you've noticed, and it causes me to be somewhat hermit like during the school year. But hey, I'm here any time you need an ear or some company.
