Damn I hate reruns. I was really looking forward to a new episode tonight. Oh well. So I've started playing World of Warcraft. I have four characters going but my favorites are my human mage and my night elf druid. I enjoy playing. It is really really addicting ( Read more... )

Karla, first of all, you do know how to write. The way you write in your LJ shows that you do have writing skills. Especially with the metaphor at the end. The fact that an editor would tell you that "you didn't know how to write" was ridiculous. Maybe it wasn't that "you don't know how to write" but maybe your writing style and the writing style of the magazine didn't mesh well. Or maybe the editor was just being dumb, probably the latter option is more true ( ... )

when people criticize, the worst thing you can possibly do is give up. In your case, the editor gave you negative feedback on your writing - but you have a choice: you can either accept what he/she said and give up, or continue to work hard and grow as a writer and journalist. I think it comes down to what YOU value and find important. If writing is truly important to you, than you will make it happen. This might mean submitting freelance work, applying for journalism jobs, or finding random outlets for practicing your writing technique. The nice thing about writing is that there are a lot of opportunities, and although most of them won't lead to any real financial reward, they can help you grow and develop in the field. If the editor actually said that you "didn't know how to write" it probably was coming from the New York City perspective, which is going to be substantially different from many other cities and markets. I'm sure it's just the lingo. The east coast isn't known for coddling ( ... )

hey you probably wont break anything snowboarding. the worst thing i ever did was have a massive fall and get lip stitches, cool scars, etc..but i also take way stupider risks and was on the backcoutry. and once you realize how awesome snowboarding is it will all be worth it.

especially if you take lessons..the worse you'll get is a little sore. seriously. i've seen like 20 of my friends on their first day of snowboarding.

and thats all the advice i have.

but dont stress about being lazy...there's not that much to do. and if you're having fun hanging out and watching tv...eh. go for it. i dont even have cable.

everything will work itself out .

You can do it Karla and you will. Sometimes we need to give ourselves a little push and it takes awhile to put things in motion but we are not stuck in a time vacuum. We are all in this phase of suspension where are goals seem out of reach but they are not, we just need to accept a little delayed satisfaction. And we grow and learn a lot in the process. That waiting allows us to have some time to agonize over these exact things and allows us to (or forces us) to take those risks and helps us take them with more knowledge and clarity. From here on out we are in unstructured territory and we have to make our own path. I know you'll make the one that is right for you. Just don't forget that this anxiety is all part of that process.
