well i think you're right about charlotte's voice being unique. i liked the way that the song used a kind of march-ish beat to go with the "army" theme and i thought the sound that plays in the background throughout was a nice touch - i THINK it's just a muted electric guitar chord? i really have no idea but i think it was nice. her voice is almost borderline-annoying for me just because the accented words were too dramatic sometimes. but that's just my ~preference.

i really love alison sudol's voice so i automatically liked ashes and wine, but i think it could've been a bit..idk more, i guess. i haven't heard enough of her songs to make a good comparison but it seems like she writes predominantly love/breakup songs and that gets old pretty fast. she's lucky her vocal technique is appealing or else she'd be boring imo ( ... )

everyone always tells me that her voice is almost annoying but idk, it makes me really like that she takes that kind of chance with her music and voice and i guess after seeing her live (which was the reason i actually got into her) her voice is just as good live as on cd if not better. i think her voice is probably an acquired taste.

i have that whole cd and it took me like 2 times to actually really appreciate it. but aren't most songs about love and loss? lol

i just love that song because i hate most christmas ones because they get so old so fast and that one doesn't \o/

AND (goddamn ljhook always picking excited keltie) a rec - angeles by elliott smith. his voice is probably kind of an acquired taste and i'm still getting used to it but i love the acoustic guitar and if nothing else, that can be appreciated~
