It has been 20 or more years now since I've wanted surgery on my eyes to correct my vision! I hated wearing glasses and it has become very difficult for me to wear contact lenses because my eyes get so dry

My older daughter, Vicki, had the same surgery about a year and a half ago and she went through the same experience you describe. She will use drops the rest of her life for dry eye but says (now) that it was worth it. She had a LOT of pain the first day after the anesthetic wore off...so bad that she was terrified. Made me rethink about having the whole procedure for myself...I am a wimp about stuff like that.
Except her myopia was very very bad so she took about 6 months to get absolute clarity of vision as one eye, especially, took all that time to adapt to "seeing" again. She has perfect vision now. :)
You know, I don't believe that these places that are doing eye surgery are being upfront about the pain or discomfort or problems that are common afterwards! I went to a good doctor and I feel that they don't want to scare people out of having the surgery so they don't open up about what patients are dealing with!
Do you know if your daughter had to use drops every hour the first week or so just to feel comfortable? I felt ok last night but now this morning my eyes feel like they have sand in them. It's very frustrating, but they tell me this will pass.
Yes, she used drops just about every hour for weeks, poor thing. She is fine now and absolutely thrilled to have perfect eyesight without lenses of any kind but she spent 6 months until she felt it was all ok. She only had real pain the first day but even so, it was excruciating.
I don't think they're very upfront about the discomfort either. And Vicki went to the best clinic in Seville. They were very good and she had all the appointments she needed to solve issues and follow-up stuff but she felt they should have told her that when a person has as bad a vision as she had, that the process is much harder and more drawn out.
We are well, thankfully. Doing our usual round of travel and stuff. :) Much love to you, Jo. and (((hugs))) I miss you!
Thank you for sharing all this information, Donna. It reduces my anxiety, and now I know all this "burning" my eyes are experiencing will pass just like the doctor said.
My eyes feel really good this morning so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Hi Joanne! I'm glad to hear you're able to see so well now. The doctor should have told you more about the discomfort you would experience afterward though. I've thought about having Lasik, but I just can't stand the idea of someone "touching" my eyes. I'm glad you were so brave! :-)
I couldn't stand the idea of someone touching my eyes, but I wanted to throw my glasses out so much so that I got up the nerve to get this procedure done. My contact lenses were really bothering my eyes so I was wearing them less and less.
I think this pain will be worth it.
My only fear is that I have some debilitating complications.
My vision isn't bad enough to bother with it. I don't wear glasses or contacts. I just deal with a bit blurred far off vision. I do have glasses to wear while driving long distances to not make my eyes so tired but I haven't worn them in ages. I LOVE the clear vision I have with them and would love to have that all the time.
My daughter has talked about having the surgery. She can't see the big E on the chart. Not sure if she still plans to one day though.

I'm not sure I believe them.
