If there was one thing Tamaki Suoh knew about Haruhi Fujioka, it was that she was the strongest person he had ever met. She was sure and wise and she never second guessed herself. She was basically fearless in a way that even he could never hope to be and he admired her deeply for this reason as well as others. So this was why it came as such a shock for him to see this strong, unshakable girl huddled at the bottom of a wardrobe, her knees clutched protectively to her chest. This was not the Haruhi he was used to. This was a Haruhi that it took him a moment to be able to comprehend. But when he could fully understand her fear and she leaped into his arms, somehow all the pieces came together.

‘She’s not invincible…’ he realized, and he clasped her close, burying his face in her hair. She was trembling and she was afraid, and in that moment he could sense her weakness. Somehow, this weakness made her beautiful. Somehow, deep inside, he felt something stir. Fatherly love, he decided. It made him feel warm.

“Sorry about this…” Haruhi muttered, more than a little embarrassed as she felt his strong arms close around her tightly. Though she trembled slightly with fear, her heart was already beginning to settle against the safe, protective wall of his chest. So he had discovered her weakness. It seemed almost bizarre to her how calm he was being, how absolutely resolute to protect her he seemed. It was something she had never experienced before in her life, and it was enough to make her question how she had possibly lived without it this long. Though she was mostly unaware, something inside of her changed at that moment, and something almost undetectable but warm grew. He had seen her in a way that no one else ever had, and it was something that affected her more than she would ever know. In the warmth of his arms in that dark room with brilliant flashes of lightning that lit up the night, it felt like the beginning of something. Even through this bitter weakness that made her legs shake, somehow this boy gave her strength.

For years to come Haruhi would puzzle over exactly when she had fallen in love with him, but she was certain of one thing. Standing at an airport on a sunny day with her hand clasped in his, she would look back on the moment in that summer house with a fondness. Though she never expressly told him out loud (it was one little secret she liked to keep to herself), from then on she was sure that things would never be the same…

Because it was at that moment that Tamaki Suoh became her weakness.
