I assumed you would leave when you were ready, I did not expect you to wait for me to return. The conference was good. Lupin is improving, I think. I am not at liberty to discuss what ails him, but suffice it to say the man is too much a bloody Gryffindor for his own good.

On speaking terms with Potter again, then? I believe that is a poor choice, but do as you will. Be cautious.

Do you want to join the Order? It is not a decision to be made lightly. Minerva is as ruthless in her own way as Albus ever was. Are you prepared to ally yourself against your father? You will not be allowed to remain neutral, there, and be a member of the Order. Whatever you know about Lucius' activities, you will be expected to share with those whose intent it is to thwart him. Speaking terms would be putting it nicely. He sort of . . . ignores me now. Or he's painfully civil. I think we're still fighting but I don't know. It's hard to tell with him.

I don't know. I don't know what I want. I feel like I'm on the verge of some kind of existential crisis. And of course you go and put things into perspective. Can I stand against my father? Without him killing me, I mean?

I suppose Tuesday, then. I can exercise my patience until then.

It is impossible for me to fathom why you care what that idiot thinks.

You are stronger than you think you are. But Lucius is very powerful. He is also your father, and I do not think you have stopped wishing to please him. You are very young, yet, and you have suffered a great trauma from which you have not had time to recover. I don't think this is the best time for you to make such an important decision. Your father seems to at least want to make the appearance of social civility. I think you are safe enough, for the present moment, maintaining your neutrality.

Tuesday it is. Do try not to tax yourself in the exertion of your patience. Think of all the galleons you will manage to make me spend on you when the time comes. Shall we meet in Diagon Alley? What time?

As for what you haven't heard, there's not much to report. Well, nothing worth reporting. Lupin's a little more bearable... still not himself. The rest have been rather boring, even needling Zak has become pathetic.

I suppose I find myself noticing your absence... I have no one to pick on.
