Just got this message from someone on Deviant Art. It seems like it might be good exposure, but there is something about people using my work and not getting paid for it. I'm nervous when the rights of my work are up in the air. Any thoughts?
Hi Mike, my name is Geremy George. I am an artist in the Denver, CO scene and I am also the founder of Art Demands Change.org. I stumbled upon your gallery today while browsing through DeviantArt and I really like your collage work!
For a while now, I have been working on a project that would allow artists to use reproductions of their work to create change in the world. I am in the process of starting up an online art print website that will sell artists' prints and 80% of the proceeds from sales will go directly to charitable organizations (i.e. American Red Cross, etc.). We are very close to site launch, but one of my big tasks right now is recruiting artists to be a part of this project. That being said, I really enjoy the work that you create, and wanted to know if you'd be interested in this.
The site is called Art Demands Change. You can check out a demo of the site now at www.artdemandschange.org. Keep in mind that the site is just up for demo purposes right now to show to artists that might be interested. I plan on launching the site permanently in the next month to month and a half.
Here is an overview of the project:
1) Artists that we recruit donate the rights to reproduce their submitted images to Art Demands Change, and in turn we take those images and create high quality print reproductions of them which we sell through our site.
2) There is absolutely no cost to the artist. We take care of printing, shipping, running the site, etc.
3) 80% of print sales go directly to charitable organizations that YOU, the artist, selects.
4) The other 20% is used by ADC to cover print costs, website maintenance, etc.
5) ADC does NOT profit from your work, I am setting this up to be a self-sufficient project.
6) You are completely free to opt in and out as you choose. You are not obligated to ADC in any way.
7) After site launch, we plan on organizing gallery shows highlighting artists that are part of ADC. So there will be real world exposure, not just web-based.
8) In the near future we also plan to do some aggressive advertising to promote the site (and your art), including web/print advertising, setting up booths at indie art/comic conventions, etc.
9) So basically think of this as a perpetual art print benefit sale of donated works, that will directly benefit charitable organizations and promote positive change in the world all while giving artists online and real world exposure, and an additional product that they can offer to their collector base.
I would like to send you an artist proposal packet, going over all of the details of the the site and the submission process. If you are interested in my project, email me at adc@artdemandschange.org, or call me on my cell at (555) 555-5555 and we can discuss.
I sincerely hope to hear from you soon!
Geremy
