On an obscure gaming note, Valve is claming that a new level of Half Life 2 is being released through Steam fairly soon. This new level is called The Lost Coast and (from what I remember) takes place during the car ride along the beach but before you reach Nova Prospekt ( Read more... )

Dunno. Like I said, it's being shoehorned between the car and Nova Prospect levels. Maybe consider it a kind of...director's cut. In reality, its just a tech-demo.

Eh. Unless you enjoy CTF or DM, you shouldn't bother. I'm sure the engine will be used elsewhere, like on America's Army (which is using the UT2K4 engine) or another stand-alone shooter like (the crappy) Pariah.

Yeah, the realism in these games has experienced some logarithmic growth, it seems. Tweaks, as you say, but it doesn't take much for the human eye to realize what they are seeing is simulated. I think this HDR stuff will go a long way to address that issue. Those pictures are pretty amazing, if you haven't clicked the link yet.
