With all this hullabaloo over Hot Coffee, I'm a little surprised that "God of War" hasn't attracted the ire of the likes of Hillary Clinton, Tipper Gore or (insert name of self-righteous Republican/Democrat here). I'll tell ya, never have I seen a game with more gratuitous nudity than "God of War". Big heaving titties, simulated gravity affecting ( Read more... )

They can legislate who it gets sold to. I'm not saying that film makers or game manufacturers or novelists or artists in other mediums shouldn't have carte blanche as to the content of their creations. But I should be able to trust that my kid isn't going to get the opportunity to buy an explicit game any more than he'll/she'll be able to purchase Anal Extruders VIII. And I should be able to trust that any rating applied to said content is fair and accurate ( ... )

I meant to say something to the effect of "yeah, its difficult to legislate common fucking sense", which is what I think you mean by your first sentance.

It kills me that Government reps are so frequently asked to take action against things that should be 'legislated' by parental supervision. A few Christmases ago, I was buying a game at Target and a parent interrupted my transaction by asking the sales guy for Vice City. Since she had pushed right up into my side, I didn't feel all that bad about sticking my nose in and asked how old the child was that she was buying it for. She said he was 12 and it was the only game on his list. The sales guy and I looked at each other and started shaking our heads. He tactfully advised that 12 may be a little young for that game. She pretty much asked 'how bad can it be?' Bless her heart, she probably hasn't seen a video game in action since Super Mario World, if then. I began describing in lurid detail the car stealing, people killing, and hooker beating, all rendered in state of the art CGI ( ... )

Eh, only if he's seen Pulp Fiction.

I still have GTA:Vice City for my PC. That game doesn't come close to how...adult themed GTA:San Andreas is. The largest difference being the pervasive drug use and the foul language.

During Lizzie's birthday party, the San Andreas topic came up. I'd just sold SA back to the game store. Our friend Kim asked her son Shawn if he'd played GTA:SA. He said "yes, at a friend's house", and she had a fit.

At least God of War was a really good game, and most of the violence was not directed at "real people".

GTA:SA is just an extension of what Rockstar has been doing with the series.. using the newsmedia as free advertising.
