I played through the demo level and...yeah....FEAR is fairly scary. The game that it most resembles ain't Doom 3 or Half-Life 2, but Chronicles of Riddick. Mostly in the way that it uses lighting to set the mood (which WAS done in Doom 3, but to inferior effect, imho). It also has that same unreal "sheen", as if the virtual "lens" has been coated ( Read more... )

FEAR sounds like it's definitely the sort of thing that I can get into. Sadly, I could never get the copy of System Shock 2 that I had to work on my windows XP system. Clive Barker's Undying was another really decent chiller that I've played through a few times. Doom 3 was great until the "scares" became predictable and then the gameplay feel flat. It conditioned you to shoot the two baddies in front of you and automatically turn around to get the one that appeared out of no where behind you...and after that there wasn't much to it. Half-Life 2 is possibly the most well-rounded game I've ever played.

Yes, director's cuts and special editions are annoying if their release doesn't coincide with the vanilla version. I hate paying for something and then a few months later having to buy/borrow/rent the dc/se to get a small dose of extras.

after reading all your recent gameing entries thought I'd let you know hubby is now pitching on the other team . .he is now working at NVIDIA! I don't know squat about vid cards, but from game laptop reviews I read, NVID makes some good stuff. Hubby will be indirect at this point on the graphics, but a total connect with the world of graphics language!
