BACKGROUND:
Ami Mizuno was just a regular girl, a dedicated student living in the bustling city of Tokyo with dreams of becoming a doctor. She excelled at anything academic, almost always winding up at the top of her class. When she wasn't in regular school, she was in cram school, or at home studying, and despite the fact that she was actually a very nice girl, her constant need to be on the very top of her studies made her difficult for other students to approach. They thought her cold and distant, and Ami spent most of her young life relatively alone.
She also harbored a secret for a short time - through a completely random event around the time she turned thirteen, she learned that she had latent mutant powers, control over water specifically. It wasn't until she was approached by an odd girl and her even odder black cat who turned out to be a shapeshifter of sorts. The shapeshifter woman told Ami that she could detect mutant abilities in other people, and that her young charge also had powers like Ami did. Not only that, they were looking for others like her in order to form a team of crime fighters. A group calling themselves the Dark Kingdom was causing trouble in Japan, armed with hostile mutants that were a difficult problem for local law enforcement to deal with.
Ami was reluctant, but she liked the girl, especially since she'd never really had many friends and she was one of the few willing to look past her brain and see the kind girl within. She didn't want to leave her to fight the battles on her own, and with quite a bit of worry, she agreed to help.
Along the way in their battles against petty criminals and Dark Kingdom lackeys, they met five others like them, one of them in particular being the infamous Sailor V. Together the five of them became a bit of a pop phenomenon in Tokyo, a vigilante group who's antics mirrored that of popular sentai shows and gave the youth of Japan something new to be excited over.
But it was taxing on the girls to keep up a life of heroism while still going to school and hiding the information from their parents, especially with the Dark Kingdom being such a difficult foe to deal with. They managed to keep it up for several years, until two events knocked all their confidences in to the gutter.
The boyfriend of one of their ranks was kidnapped by the Dark Kingdom, brainwashed and forced to work for them, and a catastrophic dimensional rift opened in Japan, injuring and killing hundreds. They had dedicated their lives to protecting the innocent, and they couldn't even keep one of their own safe, let alone those that had been caught in the rift. It hit Ami especially hard, knowing that she wanted to bad to be a doctor when she was older and that she had failed.
The Sailor Senshi faded out of the lime light, and Luna decided it was time for the girls to take a break. They could only do so much; they were only teenagers after all, even with their powers.
Minako began looking in to an institute in the United States that Artemis had recommended, and after a while she decided to go. It was a place that would help young mutants control their powers, and the adults of the institute were doing the exact same thing they were doing in Japan, only with far more training and control. It peaked Ami's interest, and after a few months she managed to come up with a convincing 'transfer student' story to give her mother before taking off for the states.
She didn't want to leave without the rest of the team, but she hoped in time the others would see her and Minako's way of thinking and join them.
PERSONALITY:
Ami is, first and foremost, the "brain" of the team. Her intelligence surpasses near-genius levels, and she excels in anything that is academic. She loves computers, even having a mini net-book that she's often used on Senshi missions to get information, do quick calculations and assist the other girls. She lacks a lot of the strength that the others have, especially in attacks, but she makes up for it by being able to form tactical maneuvers at the drop of a hat. Unfortunately many people view her as standoffish, awkward and cold, her insatiable desire for knowledge and drive to be the best keeping her from showing much personality.
Quite the opposite is true. Ami is, past her shyness, is actually a very warm, loving girl, with an open, caring heart. When she manages to make friends, she keeps them close, cares for them deeply, and when they're hurting, she hurts as well. She goes out of her way to help them, always willing to reach out, lend an ear, or a shoulder to cry on.
On the flip side of that, though, she's very reluctant to share her problems with others. She suffers from insecurities, the things other people say about her do hurt, but she's gotten so used to hiding her feelings she will more often then not smile and say she's alright, while turning around to cry alone. If anything, though, she's capable of bouncing back from upsetting situations rather well most of the time. The biggest thing that gets her down is knowing at any point that there is some one in pain, hurting or injured, and she can't help them.
She can be a little up tight, often told by her friends that she needs to relax more, and she's often the most prudish of the group, prone to frantic blushing when relationships, boys, or anything of the sort is brought up. She has a secret love of romance novels, and will deny it adamantly if anyone ever confronts her about it.
She also dislikes quarrels, is often the peace maker of the group when they get in to squabbles, and if she wasn't trying to be a super hero, she would be much more out spoken against acts of violence. Of course being one of the Senshi she has no choice in certain situations.

Ami is, like many young Japanese girls, is petite and rather short, coming it at 5'2". She has a small build, big blue eyes, and short-cut blue-black hair. She also wears glasses.
She tends to dress modestly, in sweaters, mostly plain shirts, nice blouses, and jeans, dresses or skirts. Her skirts rarely go above knee length, and if they do she usually wears tights, nylons or leggings underneath. She's not one for make up or jewelry.
Her sailor uniform is the same as the others, all in shades of blue. The bows are light blue, the collar, skirt, choker and boots are all true blue, with the bodice and gloves pure white and a gold tiara with a blue stone. She hasn't gained as much control as Minako has and often relies on the uniform still, deactivating it via the tiara.
POWERS: Ami has control over water, and by proxy mist/fog and ice. By her departure from Japan she's managed to pull more strength in to her attacks, using mist for a distraction and ice as actual offensive/defensive attacks (one in particular being creating a harp out of ice and directing her attacks that way), though she still lacks the power that her friends had.
