Th-they euthanize animals in shelters, just because they haven't found an owner?

Animals are not things, for fuck's sake! How would you react if people started doing this to children? "Ooh, no one has adopted it yet, let's just kill it off since it just blocks space!" Of course everyone would be shocked. Fucking humans.

De-lurking (in a way) to agree with you wholeheartedly. Luckily as far as I'm aware, here in England, we no longer do this. They either just keep trying to get animals adopted, foster them out instead of adopting them, or the staff at the animal shelter will often give them a home.

You're 100% right. If we did this to humans there would be major trouble. So why should animals be treated any differently?

In Germany we don't do this either (except if the dog is made so aggressive that he couldn't life a life outside of a cage - this is even worse imo) so I was shocked when I browsed a site about animal cruelty where it talked about them being put down after a while. Even furniture is treated better if it's value is high enough. There are just no words.

People justify all that treatment with "humanity" and "conscience" that humans are supposed to have and which puts them above other animals. But no, this is just one of the evidences that it isn't the case.
