Chapter 15: Bambi
When he heard the three knocks on the front door, Jaejoong immediatly knew who it was. Yunho used to knock like that on his bedroom door, even though Jaejoong told him he never needed to knock. He always did.
“Don’t open it!” Jaejoong hissed when Shirley stood up.
Shirley ignored him and opened the door. Jaejoong fled into his room and closed the door behind him. He really didn’t want to see Yunho.
“Jennifer, you have a guest!” Shirley yelled from outside.
“I’m busy. Tell…whoever it is to come back another time!” he yelled back
“Get out of that room. Now.” He couldn’t exactly refuse when Shirley took on that tone. He opened the door and saw that Yunho was standing in the doorway, waiting for him.
“Hey,I was wondering if I could have Bambi back?”
Jaejoong frowned. “I don’t have your toy.” He was lying.
“Uhm…my mom saw you climb the side of our house and coming out of my room’s window with her, so could you please go get it for me?”  Yunho asked politely. Changmin, who was sitting on the couch in the living room snorted. “You broke into his house?”
“I already said that I don’t have it. Maybe it was Heechul who broke into your house and took it. Go ask him.”
“Jennifer, just give him his toy back,” Shirley said.
“How am I supposed to give it back when I don’t have it?”
Shirley rolled her eyes and went into her room. She came back a second later, holding the stuffed animal. Junsu was walking behind her, wailing his head off.  “Why did you take it! I was just getting some good sleep!”
“Shut up. It’s not yours.” She was about to hand it to Yunho, when Jaejoong lunged forward and snatched it out of her hands.
Everyone heard it. That nauseating sound of fabric getting torn apart. They watched Bambi’s head hitting the floor in slowmotion, white cotton sticking out of her neck.
They all knew what Bambi meant for Yunho. It was his first toy ever, the only toy he didn’t have to hand down to his little brother, the toy dead grandma Jung gave to him, the toy he had his first kiss with…
“It was an accident,” Jaejoong immediatly saw.
“You don’t deserve to live,”Changmin said.
“I swear…” Jaejoong turned to look at Yunho who was staring at the head, lying on the floor. “Yunho I swear it was an accident.”
“Who would do something like this,” Junsu said, and looked at Jaejoong accusingly. “A monster, that’s who.”
“It was an accident!”
“You should have just given it to him! Now it’s dead!”
“You shouldn’t have stolen it in the first place,” Changmin added.
“Okay, I don’t know what’s going on here, So I’m going to leave you to it,” Shirley said and handed Junsu the rest of Bambi’s body, before going into her room.
“I swear it was an accident,” Jaejoong repeated. “I would never do that.”
Yunho picked up the head from the floor, took the body out of Junsu’s hands and left Shirley’s apartment without saying a word.
And right at that moment Jaejoong got a text message: I know what you did last night

Heechul sat up straight the second he heard the door to their dorm room opening and saw Yunho coming un quietly. He flinched when he saw he had Bambi’s head in one hand and his body the other.
“I’m going to kill him,” he announced and stood up from his bed. “Where’s that Shirley woman’s house?”
“Just leave it,” Yunho sighed. Heflopped down onto Heechul’s bed instead of his own and grabbed one of his pillows to cover his face with “I don’t know why he hates me so much.”
“He doesn’t hate you. He just loves himself too much,” Heechul mumbled and started looking through the drawrs of his desk for the tiny sewing-kit his mother had given him when he moved out. He found it and snatched the pieces of Bambi lying next to Yunho on his bed. He wondered what he was supposed to do next.
Yunho removed the pillow from his face and blinked. “You’re going to sew her for me? You’ll hurt yourself.”
“Well, you can’t leave her like that can you? The filling is coming out.”
Yunho covered his face again. “How can he hate me so much?”
“We’re not going over this again,” Heechul said and turned on his laptop. “You’re too good for him. Too good for anyone.”
He googled ‘learn how to sew’.
“I don’t want him back or anything. I just don’t get why he’s being like this. Why can’t we be friends? Or at least friendly? No, he takes my Bambi hostage and kills her.”
“Because he’s an asshole, that’s why.”
“You two were best friends. You shouldn’t be saying that.”
“Were.”
“I don’t want you to stop being friends with him just because of me. That’s just stupid.”
“Well, I don’t exactly care what you think. Come hold Bambi’s head so I can try and fix her.”
Two hours and four bloody fingertips, all on Heechul’s side later Yunho stopped trying.
“Just leave it. It’s hopeless. Maybe it was her time to go.”
“What do you mean it’s hopeless? It’s not perfect, but at least her head isn’t falling off.”
The moment he said it, he knew he had jinxed himself. The threads they had placed, holding the head up straight broke and Bambi’s head came falling down.
“I’ll jus do it again,” Heechul sighed.
“Don’t bother, Heechul.”
“Dude, I know you. You’re going to go all emo on me if we don’t fix her up. Maybe I
should let my mom take a look at it, tomorrow. Maybe-”
He turned to look at Yunho who had gone back to lying on his bed and covering his face with a pillow and noticed the loud, steady breathing that could only mean one thing.
He stood up and took away the pillow ot make sure and was greeted by an open mouth and half open eyes. He was sure.

The next day after school, and after a lot of yelling and name calling from Junsu, Changmin and even Yoochun, who had of course heard the news from Changmin, Jaejoong went to the toystore and bought a bambi doll. That day, he also found out that Yunho and Heechul shared a dorm room. Somewhat hoping they weren’t home, he knocked on the door.
Heechul opened it, laughing and flailing his arms around.
Jaejoong stared.
Heechul stopped laughing. “Can I help you?”
“What are you wearing?” Jaejoong asked, still staring, not believing.
“A bambi suit. Got a problem with that?”
“But why…?” When he peered into the room, he saw Yunho standing by a window, looking outside, holding his old, stitched up Bambi, looking happy.
Heechul touched his antlers and shrugged. “Non of your business, you murdering, tattoo-having criminal.”
He closed the door before Jaejoong could say anything.
