Chapter 27: Together but not Together and Detective Yunho
Shirley ignored them completely, but Changmin couldn’t hold back his curiosity or shock when he saw Jaejoong, Yunho and Kibum disappear into their room.
Kibum glanced at him right before the Yunho closed the door behind him and his expression told Changmin that he hadn’t expected to see him there. “Hey, you said-”
Click. Door shut.
“Did you see that?”
“See what?” Shirley asked, not sounding interested at all.
“What the hell is Jaejoong doing here with Kibum and Yunho?” he walked over to Shirley who was sitting on the couch reading Women Wrestler’s Magazine.
“Go ask him,” she shrugged, flipping a page. “You said you missed the annoying kid, right? Go talk to him.”
“I can’t just talk to him. He hates me.”
“Then don’t talk to him. Whatever you want.”
“But I do miss him…I miss his dimples…”
“Then go talk to him.”
“But I can’t.”
“Then don’t.”
“But I wanna.”
“Then go.”
“But I-”
“Jennifer!”
Seconds later Jaejoong came into the living room, fidgeting with his fingers. “Yes?”
“Get that Kibo kid out here,” she demanded.
Jaejoong nodded, and looked up and Changmin confused. Changmin stared at the door to their bedroom as Kibum came walking out.
“Did someone just kind of say my name?” he asked, looking around the room, until his eyes fell on Changmin. They stared at each other.
“Hey,” Kibum finally said.
Seeing that Changmin was frozen solid, Shirley rolled her eyes. “He said he missed your dimples.”
“Oh…Did you?” Kibum asked, still looking at Changmin.
“And I missed your hair,” Changmin finally broke his silence.
“Well, you have other hair to play with now, don’t you?”
Changmin shook his head. “Who told you that? I don’t have other hair. Did Jaejoong tell you that?”
Jaejoong quietly made his way out of the living room and back into his bedroom.
“No, but I just assumed,” Kibum motioned between Shirley and Changmin. “Since that was the reason we broke up and all.”
“We’re not. We tried for like…three days. But it just wasn’t the same,” Changmin muttered and Kibum’s expression softened.
“I missed your hairy back,” Kibum admitted and Shirley stood up from where she had been listening on the couch.” I don’t need to hear this at all. Tell Jennifer to prepare tonights diner.”
And all was well in Jaejoong’s life once again.
“So this is all good again?” Yoochun asked and motioned between Changmin and Kibum who were sitting across from him in their usual café at the mall. “So you stopped seeing that asexual mess?”
“She isn’t an asexual mess,” Jaejoong intervened. “Don’t call her that.”
“You were the first one to call her that, though,” Yoochun frowned.
“That’s a lie. When the hell is Yunho getting here? And why didn’t you and Junsu come together?”
Yoochun wanted to say that him and Junsu weren’t going to come together for a while, but instead said: “He said he had something to do and was being all mysterious about it, but I saw the add he was ogling all day. He went to cut his hair.” To try and seduce me.
“Why would he be all mysterious about that?” Jaejoong asked. “Doesn’t he need your permission to get a haircut anyway? Or is he getting back to you for getting yours cut twice without consulting him, or me, by the way.”
“I don’t know. We’ll see when he gets here.” Yoochun was playing it cool, but honestly he was freaking out a bit. He was half expecting Junsu to walk through the door wearing nothing or close to nothing, because that was Junsu’s way of saying ‘ha, look at me now, sucker. Bet you can’t keep your hands off me now’.
To his surprise Junsu entered the café not ten minutes later, wearing a hoodie and a leather jacket that Yoochun had been missing for months now. His hair had gone from red to pitch black and absolutely gorgeous, but before Yoochun could say anything about it, Heechul came barging in after him, looking unamused.
He came over to their table and stopped right in front of Jaejoong. “Mister-I’m-so-goddamn-important-I-have-my-own-messenger-and-his-name-is-Heechul wants me to tell you he’s not making it tonight because there was an emergency and he has to fly out like…” Heechul Yoochun’s wrist up and looked at his watch. “…now.”
“What? He left for Japan? When is he coming back?” Jaejoong asked and stood up.
Junsu who had been standing there the whole time took Jaejoong’s seat next to Yoochun and kissed him on his cheek.
“That’s still okay right? Nothing sexual about that,” he grinned. “How do you like my super awesome new hair?”
“Super awesome,” Yoochun grinned and brushed his fingers over the bangs hanging over one eye. “Sexy too-”
“He means emo. And absolutely gay,” Changmin peeped in. “So gay-”
“Kibum! I didn’t see you sitting there!” Junsu interrupted him.
“It’s okay. That happens a lot,” Kibum smiled.
“So you and Changmin made up? Weren’t you sexing up Shirley, Changmin?”
Kibum’s smile fell and Yoochun squeezed Junsu’s hand. “I think that’s taboo.”
“Oh…well, it’s okay. Shirley is an asexual mess anyway,” Junsu assured Kibum who was still wearing a frown on his face.
Jaejoong, who still seemed to be in a serious conversation with Heechul standing next to their table, heard what Junsu said and stuck his hand out without looking up. He took a handful of Junsu’s new hair and tugged on it, hard enough to make Junsu squirm in pain.
“We’re not together,” Kibum said, making Jaejoong stop his attack and Junsu stop squirming. “But we’re not not together either.”
“That’s going to bite you in the ass later,” Junsu said. “Believe me, I have experience with being together, but not together. Completely Changmin’s fault by the way-”
“Maybe you should stop talking,” Changmin suggested. Junsu stuck his tongue out and Yoochun put his hand in front of his mouth. “Don’t go and show off your tongue to people.”
Meanwhile Jaejoong and Heechul had continued their conversation. “But maybe he’s still at the airport. I could at least say goodbye-”
“This isn’t where you run to the airport, catch him just in time to say your last goodbye and confess your undying love, Jaejoong. You can do that when he comes back. Who knows, he could come back tomorrow, or the day after,” Heechul said and pulled up a chair from another table. “Don’t be an idiot.”
“But why didn’t he call me?”
“Probably because that hot weirdo came to our dorm looking like someone just shot his mom and Yunho was the detective who could find the killer. Just chill out.”
“Which hot weirdo?”
“Rain,” Heechul explained.
“Shirley’s hot ex-boyfriend, Rain,” Junsu smirked looking at Changmin. Changmin ignored him and turned to Yoochun. “Speaking of Shirley’s hot ex-boyfriends. How’s Junho doing?”
Yoochun shrugged. “Haven’t spoken to him since graduation.”
“Maybe he died,” Junsu murmured.
Jaejoong sat down in Junsu’s lap, ignoring all squeaks and undignified shrieks, and slammed his hands on the table. “I’m getting my hair done too.”
“Good for you…” Yoochun said. “Now please get your ass off my boyfriend.”
“When you get your boyfriend to get his ass off my chair,” Jaejoong said, picking up a spoon from the table and looking at his own reflection in it.
“I have an idea,” Heechul said. “Who wants to get wasted for free, tonight?”
