Junsu wasn't going to dance around like his boyfriend's ex boyfriend's puppet. He just wasn't going to do it. That's what he told himself when Yoochun said he had signed him in for Jaejoong's goddamn school musical.
Reality, however was that Junsu was wearing a wig and a red coat stitch with gold, falling down to just under his knees.
He had really tried to get out of it, used excuses which weren't really excuses at the same time. He really didn't have much time for practise with his soccer practise and all the extra homework Yoochun was making him do. In the end it was Jaejoong himself who told him it was okay if he didn't want to do it, since a lot of other students were happy to take his place and would do it with a lot more joy and that pissed Junsu off. They couldn't just replace Kim Junsu that easily, hell no.
And so, he was wearing a wig and a red coat stitch with gold, falling down to just under his knees. The only practise he got was during his music class. It was pretty much okay at first. The other kids who were in it were mostly Junsu's friends and his counter part was Sunny which he was happy about because she had a boyfriend and wouldn't want more from Junsu than she should want. When Junsu told Yoochun that he scoffed.
“You really shouldn't be that arrogant, kid. It's going to bite you in the ass one day.”
“It's not arrogance, it's the truth. I can't believe you'd sign me in for something when you know there's a kiss scene in it and you know how many people want me.”
Yoochun just rolled his eyes and entered the teacher's lounge they had been talking in front of.
Junsu was happy about one thing though, Kim Jaejoong was a big grown up geek. He may have the body of a Greek god, the face of an angel and the voice of one as well, but man was he nerd. No normal teacher should get that happy when a student says hi to him in the hallway-not Junsu, of course. He was just happened to be there when it happened. And no normal teacher should wear a scarf with all colours of the rainbow in it and raffles at the end. Or have yellow rimmed glasses without...glasses in them. Junsu concluded that Kim Jaejoong was a weirdo and that Yoochun must have been just as weird when he was younger to have ever dated him.
“Junsu you need to walk around more while you sing,” Kim Sonsaengnim commented. Junsu looked down at him from his spot on the stage and saw him sitting on one of the chairs in the auditorium scribbling down something on a note pad.
“This coat is heavy,” Junsu complained, just wanting to bitch about something. “And the wig itches. Do I really have to wear it?”
“Yes,” Kim Sonsaengnim said without looking up. “Now take it from the top please.”
“Really, I've done it three times already. Can't we just stop?”
“It's still far from perfect and we only have a week left. There's still time to practise now, so I suggest you use it wisely.
“Why don't I practise my solo now instead?” Sunny intervened. “I probably need more practise than Junsu-”
“You can go next, Sunny,” Kim Sonsaengnim said.
“No, you can go now,” Junsu said when she was about to leave the stage. The students around them stopped what they were doing when they noticed the building tension on the stage.
“What the hell are you doing, Junsu?” Sunny whispered. “You're pushing it. Just do as he says.”
“I'm not his puppet,” Junsu frowned and took of the wig. “You can practise if you want, but I'm done for today.”
“If you leave,” Kim Sonsaengnim said, calmy looking at Junsu from over his yellow rimmed glasses. “You don't have to come back.”
He's bluffing, Junsu thought and took off the coat before leaving the stage. It's too late to replace me.
But he was proven wrong the next day when he came into his music class and found Daesung singing his song.
Kim Sonsaengnim was sitting on his usual place, right in front of the stage and Junsu walked up to him. “I'm here now, so real practise can start.”
“People who're not in the musical are free this hour, so you can leave,” Kim Sonsaengnim said, not taking his eyes off of Daesung. “Your understudy was more than happy to help out. He has a great voice, don't you think? Very strong.”
“I didn't say I didn't want to play anymore I was just tired yesterday,” Junsu said, annoyed by the fact that he wasn't even being looked at by this so-called teacher.
“I told you that you didn't have to come back if you chose to leave. You left, so why are you here?”
Junsu opened his mouth and closed it again. He left, straight to Yoochun's classroom.
He knew Yoochun was teaching a freshman class and he'd be annoyed if Junsu just barged in, and still he did just that.
The kids all stared at him as he walked up to Yoochun who was sitting at his desk. “You have to talk to him for me,” he whispered.
“Did you leave practise yesterday after he warned you not to leave?”
“Yeah, but-”
“And did you go back today and get denied?”
“...You're not going to help me are you?”
“Let's talk outside,” he sighed, before standing up.
They left the classroom and stood outside, in the hallway. “First of all, if you have problems with a teacher you should go to your homeroom teacher. That's Changmin, not me. Second of all, you didn't even want this in the first place so why are you so upset?”
“You don't think it's weird he's just replacing me the first change he gets? He doesn't like me and you know why.”
“No, Junsu, I don't know why. Please tell me,” Yoochun said, looking at him like he was spurring nonsense.
“He's jealous.”
“Of what exactly? He doesn't know about us, Junsu. And from what I've heard you've been a total brat during this whole thing. He's only been patient with you because he thinks you have a great voice or else he would have kicked you out the second you came late the first day.”
“You can't choose his side now, hyung,” Junsu said, ignoring Yoochun's words completely. “I'm not coming to you as a student now. I'm coming to you as your boyfriend. Please talk to him.”
Yoochun sighed loudly and looked around the hallway. “Why are you set on doing this? You didn't want it in the first place, so why now?”
“It doesn't matter. I just want to do it.” Junsu wasn't about to tell him that standing on that stage and singing his heart out had felt better than he had expected. It had been so long since he had done anything with music seriously and he realized how addicting it was. “Please?”
“I'll talk to him,” Yoochun finally gave in. Junsu lifted his arms, about to engulf his boyfriend in a hug when he remembered where they were. “Thank you,” he grinned instead. “Now please go talk to him.”
Yoochun told his class that he would be back in a minute and Junsu and he went to the auditorium where the rest was still practising. Junsu stayed in the back when Yoochun walked up to the front and sat down next to Kim Sonsaengnim in a chair. Junsu's stomach turned when he saw a smile appear on Jaejoong's face the second Yoochun came into his line of vision. Junsu bit his lip, as Yoochun leaned into him talking into his ear. He wondered if this was really worth it.
But then Yoochun stood up and walked to the back of the auditorium where Junsu was waiting for him. “You're going to have to tell your understudy he's out of a role yourself.”
