“Ah. It’s a special day today.”
Surprisingly, snow started to fall exactly at 6AM this morning, fogging up the glass and embedding the windowsill with its fluffy white. The scent of hot chocolate, cookies and cakes passed his nose despite the icy gust of wind in the neighborhood outside. Flickering lights filled his sight announcing a lively Christmas evening awaits. He thought of the taste of those treats on his tongue, the heat of the fireplace while snug at one of the blankets, maybe talking, maybe watching a movie all evening before the time they open those wonderful presents but instead,
“I’m stuck here inside the hideous dorm with hideous dorm mates with stupid ideas on how to celebrate the season. Hankyung’s not here, and more importantly, Siwon has a schedule so does Jungsoo, Hyukjae, Ryeowook and Sungmin! Which leaves me with that nasty kid Kyuhyun and…Jongwoon…and…” Heechul sighs dejectedly as he stood and walked out of the room with the thoughts of the worst Christmas Eve in Heestory.
Heechul thinks it’s unfair because really, it’s not his fault if he’s on hiatus and has no schedule. It’s not his fault that his boyfriend is a dick and chose his schedule over him. It’s not his fault that he’s alone, hungry and depressed. And now he really can’t be bothered to do anything else but bother people, his busy band mates most specially. He’d send Hyukjae and Jungsoo a message, demanding their whereabouts when he’s well aware that one is in a musical rehearsal and the other is filming a reality show.
He gave Hankyung a ring but the other didn’t pick up. “Now that he’s gone solo,” he said with a scoff. “He ignores me.” He considered Jongwoon but really didn’t do anything about it because it’s Jongwoon and talking to him would make him feel even worse.
“Hello…Kyuhyun?” he grinned as the magnae picked up his call but then frowned when he hung up on him. He stared at his phone in incredulity. “The nerve!”
In between those phone calls and messages were messages to Siwon, flooding his inbox with where are you, are you dead, god you are alive answer me dammit, okay I miss you so respond would you, and fuck you Siwon fuck you hard’s. Siwon probably won’t mind because he’s not allowed to mind and it’s partially his fault that Heechul is bitching again.
“You’re crazy,” said Sungmin when he showed up at Sukira that night. He shrugged and took the bread Ryeowook was offering him. He was starving that he’d take anything. “You are here for what?”
“Some announcement,”
“Announcement?”
“That’s what I said” he answered like it was nothing important. And although he wasn’t really allowed to make an appearance at the radio station, he still did because he wanted to and he’s Kim Heechul. Both younger boys could only shake their heads at the mess that is Heechul.
“What do you think?” Sungmin asked, whispering as they stared at Heechul entering the booth.
Ryeowook shrugged. “I have no idea and it’s scaring me.”
“And look who’s joined us tonight,” spoke Sungmin through his mic while Ryeowook shifted uncomfortably on his new seat as Heechul snatched his original one. Heechul tapped the mic as if testing if it works. It does and Sungmin rolled his eyes. “Heechul ssi, why don’t you greet our listeners?”
“Ah sure, hi. If anyone has seen Choi Siwon, please give him back to me, okay? Okay.” Without warning whatsoever, he stood up and walked off leaving his band mates blinking at his retreating back.
Ryeowook trailed off with a do you think and a raised brow before Sungmin clicked his tongue to send him a definite no.
“Do you think we should?” Ryeowook sighed, resting his chin up the roof of his palm as he watched the last bit of Heechul’s clothes disappear into the exit, turning to Sungmin fashioning an impish smirk - he swore he just sweatdropped heavily like one does in those Japanese cartoon shows.
“They’re called animes. And no, I don’t want to get myself involved. He’ll manage.”
Ryeowook turns his attention back to the script ‘till they were back on air. “Hey hey hey! And that was Andante by Super Junior, don’t you think Leeteuk hyung’s voice improved heavily? It really showed, right? We’ll have someone special as a guest later so be sure to tune in. The next song is a little more lively. It’s Hold Up by Taken, enjoy!” And he clicks the receiver.
Meanwhile, Donghae who was working as that night’s co-host sank in his chair exhaled loudly to the music that drowned studio, “Hmm…this is a very uneventful Christmas Eve, don’t you think so hyung?”
“I thi-Oh?” was Shindong’s reaction when Heechul showed up a few minutes after.
“Where the hell is he?” Even in the dim light you could have seen how red Heechul had become, Donghae got initially scared as usual. The flustered boy rummaged about the whole studio, disrupting any peace that lingered about only a few seconds before, and as much as it confuses the DJs (and the panicking staff), they can’t help but snort at how exaggerating that all was.
It happened right after Sukira, desperately, Heechul tried to call Siwon again for the uncounted time, twice. And twice it didn’t work. The third ring finally came up with a calm hello that could have gotten Heechul in a heap with floating flowers, rainbows and candies. But, again, in the other line there was a small ah and in an instant, his phone buzzed and ended the call.
Whatever came to him in colors, assuming that he was even more enraged than before brings us back to Shindong and Donghae. “Hyung calm down!” they said, still suppressing their laughs as a very red Heechul came stomping to the far corner of the studio to look still. “I am going to kill his snobby ass! Why are you two snickering? Get me that mic!”
While Shindong, just for the heck of it, shamelessly started laughing, Donghae nervously gave up his seat for the raged man to take. “Ah, ah,” Heechul spoke which earned him looks of disapproval from the staff who were still internally panicking at his sudden appearance. “Choi Siwon, seriously, wherever the hell you are-” he stopped, noticing the horrified look on Donghae’s face. Oh right, he was not allowed to say inappropriate things on air. “-wherever you are, get your ass out-” Again, he was forced to stop, hearing someone clearing his or her throat. He rolled his eyes. “You aren’t cheating on me, are you? Because you can’t be cheating on me! I swear to go-“
“Okay!” Shindong interrupted before Heechul could make things even more awkward. “And that is what happens when you ditch your girlfriend on Christmas Eve.” He shot the struggling older man a glare which said really, Heechul, really while Donghae kept his mouth shut with his hand. He was starting to complain because apparently, Heechul was licking his palm, but he’d rather get his palm licked than get a noogie from Shindong. Heechul would probably let him get away with it easily because I’m Heechul hyung’s favorite dongsaeng and he loves me. “Thank you Heechul ssi,” Shindong deadpanned. “Thank you for the re-enactment, though I’m pretty sure we didn’t need that.”
The only thing that stopped the almost wrestling pair from actually hurting each other was a call from someone that, based from a snickering Shindong, they all know too well. “And now we have a caller on the line,” the chubby man’s enthusiasm was a dead giveaway. “Hello?”
“Heechul hyung,” said person, for the first time in his life, shivered at the unusually deep voice. Donghae mouthed something along the lines of is he mad to Shindong who shrugged in return. “Stop messing around and get out of there right now.”
“What? No! You come here.” he challenged, still pissed at the other. Everyone in the room didn’t dare to speak a word, afraid that one of the enraged men will snap at them. The staff gave up shooing Heechul away, thinking that this mess he created would shoot up their ratings, which is, in a way, true.
“Stop being such a girl and get out of there.”
Heechul scoffed, checking his nails as if he wasn’t interested. “Give me a valid reason.”
“Because,” they could hear Siwon sigh, seeming to have calmed down a bit but still annoyed. “Because I’m here, outside…waiting for you.”
Even if he tried to suppress a smile, everyone noticed how his once dark and gloomy aura changed into something brighter. He sighed, biting his lips as he stood up and slowly walked out, his baby steps changing into big ones as he neared the lobby where his Prince Charming was waiting for him. “I missed you,” he said as soon as he threw himself on the younger guy. This was Siwon, he didn’t need to be the Heechul everyone knows.
Siwon replied an exasperated I missed you too as he rubbed the older man’s back. “What was that all about?”
“You were being a dick.” Heechul replied as he pulled away. “I was lonely and everyone else is being an ass.”
“That’s not nice to say.”
“You’re not so nice yourself.” With a sigh, he took Heechul’s hand in his and dragged him out the building. “I demand to know where you’re taking me.” He kept on complaining but wasn’t struggling which had Siwon rolling his eyes at him. Even when they arrived at Siwon’s house, Heechul kept on ranting and Siwon could only stare at him in amazement. “What?” the older one blinked. “Don’t stare at me.”
“No hyung you’re just…you’re too noisy I think I’m having a headache.” Siwon rubbed his seemingly throbbing temples and went inside his house, leaving the door open for Heechul who immediately followed complaining how much of a jerk Siwon is for leaving him out in the cold.
“I can’t believe you’re making me freeze out there! I should’ve just flown to China and made Hankyung entertain me which he would because I-” the rambling stopped when Heechul stopped dead on his tracks as he stared at the made up dining room before him. “Yah, boyfriend, did you…”
“Yes” Siwon sighed exasperatedly. “This was supposed to be a surprise for Christmas and now it’s ruined. I don’t blame you,” he continued. “I was doing this thing the whole day so I couldn’t entertain your boredo-oomph!” If he didn’t have a good sense of balance, he would’ve fallen on the floor as Heechul tackled him, showering him with kisses and are you stupid’s.
“You shouldn’t have.” Heechul murmured between his playful kisses on Siwon’s lips. “I hate surprises, you know that and yet you planned one for me. But that doesn’t make me love you less.”
A smile spread across Siwon’s lips for the first time that day. “Yeah, I shouldn’t have. I love you too.”
Now that was a whole day wasted.
