A Yamapi-like cool theory
Improving myself and always growing. But the current taste, is eternally under maintenance.
What does "cool" mean? To be honest, I’m not sure, either. If it’s about fashion, then monotones are cool now. If it’s about interior design, then wood tables and leather sofas are best. That sort of thing is clear in my mind. But becoming a cool "person" is difficult. Someone who is always calm, and never gets agitated no matter what happens is reliable and cool. If that’s the case, then I’m quite confident in myself (laugh). That’s because when I was 22~23 years old, I was always told that I am calm. Then, to become cool, I think it’s important not to be negligent in improving oneself. When I watch a movie, read a book, train in the gym, or talk to people… I do it all convinced that it is necessary for my growth. Maybe people who are not satisfied with their current status and are constantly progressing are considered fascinating. I wonder if I’ve become mature? I’ve considered curry and ramen the best food since a long time ago and that hasn’t changed. Am I okay?! (laugh)
Yamazaki Tsutomu-san, Lily Franky-san, Fukuyama Masaharu-san, Katori Shingo-san… They’re all cool people and I respect them. What they have in common is they know a lot about a variety of things. They talk about serious, job-related topics, but they also know how to make dirty jokes (laugh). Besides, I really respect persons who give people joy and entertain them. Making people enjoy themselves is not limited to the show business world, I think it’s doing something for other people. Going to work and doing house work for your family, studying in order to give your parents peace of mind, I think all of that is entertainment. In the short story "Shayou" [The Setting Sun] by Dazai Osamu, it says, "People are born for love and revolution." I completely sympathize with that and think they’re cool words. Taking action for someone you love, taking on a challenge to change something without being afraid of failure, I feel those words express my ideal way of life. I want to live on for love, revolution and entertainment.
After the dream stage, a battle with sleepiness
It is one of very few chances to stand in Tokyo Dome, so I was happy. It was a stage that gave us motivation for the day we will stand again there for our own concerts. But when it’s over, there’s the battle with sleepiness (laugh). We all go together to visit the shrine, and when I get home, barely feeling that that the new year has come, I just fall asleep. If I’m with (Ikuta) Toma, we probably spend it differently. I wish he could sing something, too.
