wow - it's the same story all over the world, isn't it? over and over again: traditional way of life loses out to big money / big fun / big flashy modern life.
you've probably seen a lot of this, too, but i remember being struck by the arrogance of a lot of the backpacking crowd - they had this sense of entitlement which seemed really sad to me. and, of course, i saw it in myself, too, which made me pause and start being very careful about my actions. it's funny - joe-blow white kid gets a shit job, saves money, goes to india and suddenly turns into the nouveau riche, imperiously ordering people around and haggling with the locals to get a couple of cents knocked off the price of their banana pancake.
fortunately this doesn't describe everyone i saw traveling over there, but i saw it often enough.
true true , very true! hmmmm. i am looking forward to being low on the pecking order again. i am looking forwad to proces being set, where i either can afford something or not and ten make a descision on it. here you can afford anything. a lot of people have been brought to ruin by chocolate cheesecake. some friends are now eating cake everydy even though they then complain that it makes them sick to eat it so much. but a major sugar addiction has seemed to kick in and because it is onlly like 50 cents a pop then there isnt a lot stopping them. it is bizzare.
hey meaghan, i just wanted to say that i've been reading your posts and enjoying them. i'm looking forward to you coming back here and taking one of your yoga classes :) and regarding the anonymous poster issue... i just really appreciate the openness with which you do look at yourself and share it with people and i think it takes a lot of guts to do that. i have other thoughts but they are not clear so that's all i'll say for now
been reading your post's since i dropped out and re-instigated myself on lj....i hear your back in town? is this true?? hope we get to see each other again someday soon.... much love lv.
