You only feel crummy because you've come to the realization that life is all about trying harder and yet your hardest never seems to reach your own ambitions. But it feels good to quit once in while and retreat back home until the next school year where we try again :]

The ending of the beginning usually feels crummy. You have all these hopes and ambitions and expectations when you start out, and towards the end, you realize they were all unfounded. Thus, the crummy feeling.
