Writer's Block: The Expendable Sense(s)

Sep 01, 2008 10:28

Hmm, that's a pretty tricky question. Lets do this orderly; or as orderly as I can manage right now.

Sight: Without it, the world becomes a very dangerous one. Although the lost of my sight could provide a good reason to get a dog, I don't think it's nearly enough of an upside (sorry for the bad humour there...). Besides, having been blind from birth, maybe, but giving up your sight after you learn to depends on it, well, that's pretty darn hard. No, sight is a keeper, that's for sure.

Hearing: Now, this sense it not nearly as indispensable as sight. you can actually get around pretty well without it, even if you loose it later on in your life. If "ease" was the only criteria, I'd probably choose hearing. But, it is not. I can't even begin to imagine giving up my hearing. Music has a very important place in my life, therefore, I'd have to say hearing is a keeper.; at least for me.

Touch: Now, this one is pretty indispensable too. Could you imagine not being able to feel pain, or pleasure at that? O.O I can't. Pain sucks, but living without it is rather dangerous if you want my opinion... No, touch it a keeper too. Besides, who in this world could deny the fact that touch can bring marvelous feelings?

Smell/Taste: Okay, now, only two senses left. Should I ditch smell or taste? Tough question... I think I'd have to go with taste. Ever had a real bad cold that left you with your nose blocked? Well, the food you eat in these times that doesn't taste like nothig at all really, it's pretty much all you taste without you sense of smell. In this light, I think its safe to assume that without your sense of taste you could still actually taste, but without your sense of smell, well, you couldn't...

So, the sense I'd ditch without really minding, I'd say, would have to be taste. How'bout you?
