OVERCAST
Light did not wish to believe that there was someone out there - with the exception of L - that could piece apart his recent actions regarding the twelve FBI agents and come to a logical conclusion that Kira could kill in other ways besides a heart attack.

This Maki Shouko, as she called herself, was quite different then any other person that Light had ever encountered. Upon his first spotting of her at the police station, he thought little to nothing of her. She was beautiful women, with a certain mysterious air that surrounded and radiated off of her slender form. She looked to be cunning - as most women were - but there was no indication that she was anymore intelligent then the average person. However, as soon as the forbidden word Kira slipped through her soft, moist lips, Light was instantly intrigued.

He moved in closer to observe her, placing on that cheerful smile that he knew would act as a perfect cover for his true intentions. Light could see that she was observing him closely as well, her dark eyes taking in everything and yet missing the most important things about her subject. She seemed to drop her guard slightly when he formally introduced himself as Light Yagami, the son of the Soichiro Yagami, the head of the investigation team under L.

This was her first mistake and Light briskly took that opportunity to move in for the kill. Getting her to trust him seemed fairly easy, as she seemed to have no trouble accepting his generous offer of allowing her to talk to his father - via cell phone. Surprisingly, having no one at the station proved to be a beneficent for him, this allowed Light more time to get to learn more about his possible victim.

Maki proved to him within the few minutes they were talking outside the station that she indeed was far more intelligent then she let on. Somehow, she was able to come up with the theory that Kira could kill in other ways besides using a heart attack by using simple logic and excellent deductive reasoning. Light didn’t wish to admit to anyone that this made him slightly nervous. To think there were people out there just as intelligent and analytical as he was, people who could see through his well planned out schemes and expose him to the world as Kira.

It was a good thing that he decided to go the police station when he did. If he hadn’t, Maki would have conveyed her beliefs to the police and that would have put him in a terrible situation. With information that Kira had differing methods of killing, the police would begin to connect Kira with other murders that had been happening recently. It could possible connect the bus jacking to Kira as well.

This women was dangerous. She was perhaps the single factor that determined if he was to remain undiscovered or to be caught. Maki would need to be disposed of immediately, or else Light could not be certain that she would keep her pretty little mouth shut.

The best way of killing her would be for her to commit suicide. Maki, after all was the fiancé of the deceased Raye Penber, it wouldn‘t be irrationally to think she killed herself from depression. However, several minutes after written down her name absolutely nothing happened. Ryuk’s obnoxious laughter in the background only proved to annoy him as he attempted to found out the reason why the death note didn’t work. There was only one answer he could think of. Maki was using a alias, which she gave him in an act of being cautious. Clever women, Light thought at that exact moment when his watch displayed the time of 1:15 pm - which should have been the time she caused her own demise. Apparently, she was much smarter then her rightfully dead fiancé.

It would take time to get to real name it seemed, and Light knew that time was not in his favor and he was running out of options fast. It was funny to think that he entertained the idea of using force on her, Light certainly wasn’t above using a girl for his own means but to physically harm them - that was something he felt was beneath him. But if it came to that, then let it be.

By now Maki was certainly growing weary of him. He had followed her around for a good half hour now, and yet it seemed he was getting no closer to getting her real name. Light knew had to remain calm, and keep his nerves under control, he could do this if he put his mind to it. All he had to do was keep her talking to him, found another opening and then finally send her to the after life.

What was a small lie, if it would help him in the grand scheme of things?

Light had no other options. He ended up telling Maki that he was part of the investigation team assigned to the Kira case. By telling her this, he hoped she would come to trust him more. After all, who was more trust worthy then a detective risking their life to fight crime. It was the perfect cover up for anyone. Maki, after hearing this seemed to genuinely trust him now. She revealed that she had worked underneath L before, and trusted that man without a doubt. She went even further by stating that she felt that in a way L and Light were very similar. This only resulted in Light’s initial anger and then as he calmed down vague interest.

In Light‘s corrupted mind, L was nothing compared to him and that fact would be proven just as soon as he eliminated the detective.

Incidentally, in which ever way you looked at it, Light being similar to L worked out in his favor this time, Maki handed over her driver’s license without the faintest knowledge that she also handing over her life. As he began writing down her given name, Misora Naomi , the snow began to fall from the heavens. It served to alter the air about them from calm to somber and melancholy. The sky seemed to be crying, because yet another person would meet their fate by the hands of Kira, the self-proclaimed god of the new world.

As Light rested his hand and gazed intently down at his watch. Naomi watched him innocently, founding his actions to be quite strange.

"If you don’t mind me asking," Naomi began, looking up at him as her dark hair blew gently behind her. "Why do you keep checking your watch?"

Light looked back up at her, gaze half lidded as if he was suddenly very tired. "Oh…I guess it’s because.." He paused for a fracture of a second, gaze shifting back to his watch to check it again before raising his eyes to meet hers.

When their eyes met, Naomi noted that Light’s eyes seemed to be unnatural bright with an almost evil nature about them. A wicked grin appeared slowly on the young’s boy face as he opened his lips to state with confidence.

"I’m Kira."

Time at that moment ceased to exist as Naomi’s eyes widened in horror at his revelation. Light's - no Kira’s - smirk died on his face as he openly glared at her. There was no time for Naomi to even breathe before her mind went blank and she was reduced to nothing but a mindless zombie, under the spell of the death note. She turned and helplessly walked away, the only thought passing through her mind was sadness as she walked slowly, but steadily to the gallows.

Light watched her go with a satisfied smirk, founding that he wanted to taunt her hopeless predicament even more. "What’s the matter?" He asked, knowing that he would not receive an answer, or at least not an intelligent one anyway.

"Nothing, I just got something I need to do." Came the soft spoken answer from the former detective.

Light took out his phone and flipped it open, smirking even wider. "My father might be available now. Do you want to see if you can talk to him?"

Naomi answered yet again in the same dull tone, still wandering mindlessly away from him. "No, I have nothing to say to him." Her voice was no louder then a whisper and held no vitality, a sure sign that even now as she walked she was already fading away.

Light closed his eyes for a moment and put his cell phone away, looking at her small form as it slowly disappeared from his vision. "Then goodbye, Naomi Misora." There was a hint of finality in the young boy’s voice that confirmed that he would never see that women again. At that he turned and headed back home.

It was pity, Light thought after some time as he laid upon his bed, that women would have made a good addition to the investigation team - that was no lie. However, she would have been the death of him if he had allowed her to live. Her death in that sense was justified, as it prompted Light to feel more comfortable about his own freedom as he continued his reign over this new world that he was creating. He only hoped Naomi found little to no peace in the after life, and that went for her poor fiancé as well.

Sadly, the days that followed her death, Naomi’s body was never found.

Most people don’t found peace in the after life, without the proper burial.

THE END

Ending Notes: I have discovered upon writing this story that I absolutely suck at endings. Hopefully, this story didn’t come off to bad. My main concern is that Light is in character, if not then let me promptly shoot my brains out. Also if anyone noticed I titled this story after the episode which Naomi actually dies in - because I couldn’t think of a good title on the spot. Anyhow, I am a review whore, so please don’t be shy about sending me some feed back. It really helps me get the creative juices flowing.
