The book meme business
How many books read in 2014?
45, which is depressing. 12 were for my MA module and I don't have full details of them anymore. Reading those 12 was incredibly difficult and I didn't read much else while I was struggling with them.
Fiction/Non-Fiction ratio?
7:37
Male/Female authors?
It's probably something like 75% women, 25% men as I tend to read more women.
Favourite books read?
If We Shadows by D E Atwood was great, as was The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd. I reread a couple of the Ramona books and loved them as much as I did when I was eight years old. I liked At Home by Bill Bryson (it was by far the longest book I read this year though) and Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban. I loved Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. The last book I read was The Romanov Prophecy by Steve Barry which was a Dan Brown-esque novel about bringing a Tsar back to Russia, I really enjoyed it as pure trash.
Least favourite?
I don't stick for long with books I don't like, but Paper Aeroplanes by Dawn O'Porter deserves a special mention as it had so much promise but was terrible. I have to include Every Day by David Levithan too for the horrendous treatment of a fat character (while the LGBT stuff within it is absolutely spot on! BOO LEVITHAN)
Oldest book?
The Truth About the Titanic by Archibald Gracie who was one of the survivors of the Titanic but who died the year after the disaster.
Newest book?
If We Shadows, I think? I had The Outcast Dead by Elly Griffiths on preorder, too.
Most books read by one author this year?
Beverly Cleary, who wrote the Ramona books.
Any in translation?
Not this year.
Book that most changed my perspective:
The Cry of the Go Away Bird by Andrea Eames was really interesting as it taught me a lot about the conflict in Zimbabwe.
Favourite character:
Cath in Fangirl, Ruth in The Outcast Dead (one of my favourite heroes ever) and the mother in Midwives by Chris Bohjalian
Favourite scene:
The bit with the showdown in the shack in Prisoner of Azkaban, or when Cath read to Levi in Fangirl
In what format were the books you read?
8 were ebooks on my Kindle
30 were paperbacks or hardbacks that I bought or was given
4 were borrowed from friends
3 I borrowed from the library
What do you want to read in 2015?
Just MORE. I'd like to read 52 ideally.
