Babies and hospitals

So I discover today that if our baby is born premature, the hospital will not let us take her home until we've taken an infant CPR course. This is purely hypothetical, we aren't experiencing any problems and have no reason to expect her to be premature. I just wanted to make that very clear because I don't want any concerned inquiries making ( Read more... )

This is one of my pet peeves. Parents never take responsibility for the actions of their kids. Though I hate to use such a drastic situation, look at Columbine. Those two kids had no parental control, and the parents were like 'I didn't know.' WELL YOU SHOULD HAVE, YOU STUPID FUCK! Until the age of 18, I expect to know most of what my children are doing. I may not know about smoking in the bathroom at school (unless I can smell it on their clothes), but I damned well better know of a pipebomb factory in my garage. Critics of this theory will say 'how will you know if he is doing it in a friend's garage?' I won't, necessarily. But I damned well better be trying.

As much as it *sounds* good to rah-rah about freedom, I can't say I agree with you on the car-seat issue. While I don't think the hospital should necessarily have any power to enforce anything, I fully support laws that let the cops ticket you for not bucking up your kids ( ... )

A couple of thoughts to offer after reading your post.

first as population increases your freedoms decrease. It is annoying, but it is just the way it is.

second, Laws are usually not writen because of people like you. they usually writen cause some dumb shit who does some terminally stupid and swears they didn't know and someone should have told them.

Hospital fun and games... kingfrog May 26 2004, 19:03:24 UTC
Personally, I agree that people who have reached their majority should have the right to make their own stupid decisions - and pay the consequences themselves for their errors.

People still in their minority should have someone making sure their parents don't kill them before they turn 18, at which point they should be able to do as they wish.

Now, I think the infant CPR thing is going too far - I mean, what next? Going to have to pass your EMT once the kids can walk?

I'm coming late to this, I know, but I have to say: That was some rant.

Out of curiosity, on what basis would the hospital refuse to allow you to take your child home? Is there some strange bit of Georgia law that gives them custodial rights?
