American Idol / LOST / Chuck

Dear American Idol contestants:

It's still a singing competition. It is not a "song choosing competition" or a "big personality" competition or "song arranging competition."

Pick a song you know you're good at singing and then JUST SING IT.

I liked Big Mike's performance, but it wasn't that great of a song for this kind of competition. Jermaine and ( Read more... )

What struck me halfway through Todrick's performance (that's as far as I've gotten) is that his "reworking" of that song is something I would have expected in season one or season two. It came off as very old and very amateurish. (Also, he does way too many runs, which fail to show off his voice. He doesn't know how to control the runs. He has explosive runs, if you will.)

I'm with you on KK - she kind of didn't suck. And was cute. And shocker of all shockers - she had chemistry with Zach Levi! Proving AlMiles were nuts on that chemistry thing. And I like Routh as someone who's way more take charge and has edge. (The problem with that Superman movie is that they tried to make it 80s/Chris Reeve era Superman, instead of just restarting the genre, which automatically meant that Routh was going to come out wanting. He was playing three people - he was playing Chris Reeve as Superman and Chris Reeve as Clark Kent, instead of just Routh playing Superman and Clark Kent.)

I'm not shocked by this at all. I think Zach Levi (also Michael Rosenbaum fits in this as well) is a high energy performer and she needs that to bounce off.

Agree on all points, and I think Jermaine's performance could also be classified as that karaoke-sounding arrangement reminiscent of the early seasons.

RE: Brandon Routh and Superman movie, I also agree. The biggest problem with that Superman movie is that they should have just done a clean reboot. The "homage" or whatever to the previous version just came off as baggage and it didn't fit with the way movies are made nowadays (which isn't to say they aren't awesome). The next biggest problem is casting someone like Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane, which I realize is probably a bigger problem in my mind than it is in other people's minds. I also didn't feel as much of a chemistry between Brandon/Kate as there was between Kate/James Marsden.

Kate Bosworth SUCKED as Lois. The anorexia/clothing combination made it bad enough, but then her acting choices - the fact that she thought she was channeling Katherine Hepburn still chafes me. (Yes, Katherine Hepburn would have made a great Lois. But Kate is not Katherine, and she just came off as lame.)

If it's any consolation, I've not heard anyone say anything good about Kate as Lois. Most folks hated that casting.

I...weirdly enough, even though I hated that story arc of "ooohhh, she has a kid and Marsden over Superman, even though it's totally Superman's kid", the one thing they did right was casting Marsden because you have to give a compelling reason WHY she'd choose Marsden over Superman. His character was a swell guy. And he was a swell guy that was a lot like Clark if Clark wasn't Superman. Therefore it made it a good, feasible decision to choose him over Superman. Although again, Kate had no chemistry with Routh, so that was highly problematic.

don't know if it's because I've grown or because Kristin Kreuk has grown (or maybe neither and she just lucked out with some better writers/casting this time), but I enjoyed her on Chuck and kind of wanted her storyline to continue.

I watched the last episode on NBC.com (well, I fast forwarded through the episode to watch the Chuck/Hannah scenes) and I completely agree. While I loved the breakup scene, I thought her and ZL were just really adorable together. It was easy and fun to watch.

Yes, they seemed like they fit together as a couple more than KK/anybody-ever-on-SV.

I forgot to add: You aren't the only person who felt that way about Chuck/Hannah and Sarah/Shaw. What I gathered from other sites, most people liked Chuck/Hannah and couldn't stand Sarah/Shaw. The consensus is he's no Bryce or Cole in the chemisty department.

I also feel like the Shaw/Sarah storyline isn't written as well as Chuck/Hannah. Dude, Sarah's heart is supposed to be broken. Shaw is supposed to be mourning a dead wife or fiancee. How are they finding each other attractive when they've got that baggage falling off their backs? Doesn't make sense to me.
