IMPORTANT: New Application Rules: Accepted Series

May 30, 2008 18:52

This is bound to happen sooner or later, a clarification of who can be accepted and who can't. Of course a good app post by the player is necessary as well, but there's just some characters we can't accept. I ask that people looking to apply for new characters to look at this post carefully to see the rules the community has laid out to prevent from general craziness to go on.

Super Smash Bros. is a crossover fighting game using Nintendo first (in house) and second party (separate company that makes games for one console only) characters. Special exceptions were given in Brawl to allow for Konami's Solid Snake and Sega's Sonic to join the fray. However, just because of this doesn't mean just anybody can go in. We can't allow any Master Chiefs or Crash Bandicoots running amuck! This may be an AU RP, but we still follow rules regarding character selection (with some bending, seen later).

Here are the acceptable series you may choose from!
These are series that you can safely pick from with no objection.

*Any major Nintendo series, first or current second party: This includes Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda, Starfox, etc. Second party series include Kirby and Earthbound. Anything you can safely familiarize yourself with only Nintendo involved and only on Nintendo consoles you can be sure is part of this.

*Any Sonic character from the Segasonic universe: Anybody that's from the Sonic video games Sega has released now and in the present can be used such as Silver, Blaze, Shadow, Amy, etc. You have access to any Sonic video game really, and there's a lot of those characters lately!

*Any character from the Metal Gear series: This doesn't just include the Metal Gear Solid series, but can also include characters from Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (but not Snake's Revenge! :^P). Anybody from Metal Gear Solid 1-4 can be used as well.

Here are series that are grey areas but have been found to be acceptable through community consensus!

*Selected Rare games: Rare was a former second-party company to Nintendo before leaving for Microsoft in 2002. During its time with Nintendo, Rare created Diddy Kong and the entire Donkey Kong Country series, along with Donkey Kong 64 and Starfox Adventures. When Rare left the company, Nintendo retained rights to all the Nintendo-related characters while Rare was able to leave with their original characters such as Conker and Banjo and Kazooie. Only selected characters from Rare games will be allowed! This means that if that character has interacted with Diddy Kong in any way, it can be allowed in. This means you can use characters from Diddy Kong Racing as well as characters from Banjo-Kazooie and Conker (as they both were featured in Diddy Kong Racing). This also means you can't use characters from games like Perfect Dark, Killer Instinct, and anybody from post-Nintendo Rare games such as Kameo and Grabbed by the Ghoulies.

*Super Mario RPG characters: It's a bit unclear to some who characters like Geno and Mallow belong to (Square? or Nintendo?). The game was jointly created by Squaresoft and Nintendo, but when Squaresoft decided not to make games like that anymore, Nintendo picked up where they left off and made their own Mario RPG series, the Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi games. Although not featured in Brawl as stickers or trophies, there is an unused and unaccessable track from Super Mario RPG in the Brawl game disc, and Geno was a strongly rumored (but debunked) cut character from Brawl. Because it's still part of the Mario RPG series, we will allow any character from Super Mario RPG to join.

Here are the NO-NOs! These characters will NOT be accepted

*Any non-Nintendo first party series: This means you can't use games exclusive to systems other than Nintendo, such as Microsoft's Halo series and Sony's Jak and Daxter series. This is a given, really but is put in here so that people don't get cute and pull off a Master Chief app.

*Any unrelated third party series: This means anything from Square-Enix, Capcom, Namco, etc. will not be allowed. Even if the game is exclusive to a Nintendo console, it doesn't give it the right to be accepted as a Brawl series. These third parties did not have any involvement with Brawl and thus do not belong here. Sorry, we're not dealing with any Clouds or Sephiroths around here X^D

*Any palette swap character from Melee/Brawl: NO Dark Pits or Dark Toon Links! They are not actual characters and merely just palette swaps. Dark Link IS allowed since he was a character in two games (Zelda II and Zelda 64) as well as Dark Meta Knight (Kirby's Amazing Mirror).

*Any non-canon comic series from Nintendo and Sonic: Specifically, the Nintendo Power comics and the Archie/Fleetway Sonic comics. These comics are not canon to the games and have their own set of characters which have not been featured in any game to date. This will rule out characters such as Geoffry St. John (Sonic) and Fara Phoenix (Nintendo Power Starfox comic). If you're applying as a character that is in both the games and the comics, please use their video game counterpart instead! Comic canon will not be accepted in applications, even if the character is already in a video game from the above accepted list.

*Any non-canon cartoon series from Nintendo and Sonic: This means you can't use characters from Captain N (thank god), even if they had game counterparts (NO Simon Belmont, NO Pit Icarus, etc.), various other Nintendo cartoons, and Sonic SatAM/Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog/Sonic Underground/Sonic X. If a character is from both the cartoons and the games, use the game counterpart instead! Cartoon canon will not be accepted in applications, so please use the game canon. For example, don't apply as the kooky Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog Robotnik, but instead use SegaSonic's Eggman.

*Any non-Sonic Sega series: Just because Sonic is in Brawl doesn't mean you can apply as Phantasy Star characters or Skies of Arcadia characters. The only Sega series allowed here is the Sonic the Hedgehog series.

*Any non-Metal Gear Konami series: Ditto with above, just because you can use Solid Snake doesn't mean you can use Simon Belmont either. The only Konami series allowed here is the Metal Gear series.

That is all! I understand it's a bit huffy, but rules are rules! You gotta keep this in mind to keep our community clean and fun for all :^D
