Okay, I knew going into this that Ianto died in the 4th ep. But the reality was even more freaking depressing than I had anticipated. I'm almost too heartsick to even bury myself in fanfic. I hope this wears off quickly. Torchwood fandom was making me really, really happy. It had been so long since I'd been immersed in a fandom like that -- even some of the wonderful stuff I'd seen (like Avatar: The Last Airbender) didn't suck me into the fanfic world again the way Torchwood did. It's a warm happy space for me to go to during boring meetings and I hope I can get the glow back.
FWIW, I didn't object to the whole Jack-murders-Steven plot twist. Reasons:
1) Jack's shown himself entirely capable of sacrificing one for many (cf Jasmine, Tommy, etc)
2) Jack's clearly a crappy father, which is perfectly in character;
3) Jack's conversion to "there's always another way" was entirely in reaction to Ianto's horror at what he'd done. I'm not surprised that once Ianto was gone, Jack didn't care any more.
God. Someone please cheer me up.
