summary They are all given a set of rules to follow, a number of personas to assume.
notes For mifhe. Tysm to the developer of this prompt generator ("woohyun / hoya / how you wanted it to be").

In a group, everyone assumes a role that no one else can take. Sunggyu's in charge of the leader stuff, whereas Myungsoo is in charge of generally looking good on and off cam. Dongwoo gives the group a more manly image, while Sungjong reminds everyone that they're still young and essentially cute. And Sungyeol? He's in charge of bringing laughter to every conversation.

"I hope you guys take me seriously one of these days, really," Sungyeol says, voice drifting off, and Woohyun fits his arms around his shoulder, saying, "Don't worry; we will."

Woohyun is the voice of the group, the one who makes their songs worth listening to, so Woohyun hums a little tune under his breath to appease Sungyeol somehow. Hoya, meanwhile, is the spirit of dance, the one who gives life to their otherwise bland choreography, so he makes all these huge and funny gestures that soon light Sungyeol's features with a smile. Five minutes after, they're passing jokes around again and laughing. Behind Sungyeol, Woohyun and Hoya exchange smiles.

They're only doing what they're supposed to be doing.

On broadcasted stages, they act all cool, but believe them when they say that they aren't. They're dorks inside and out, but this is what they have to do - look like men who can possibly be objects of desire (to which Myungsoo says, "Uh, whatever"). So they take turns in winking at the camera, making girls of all ages swoon as they move across the stage, singing their lungs out and bagging awards, one after the other.

After performance and practice, they casually slip back into more familiar personas, those that don't involve assuming roles and projecting a perfect image to people around them.

Woohyun doesn't hum under his breath when Sungyeol is sad. Hoya doesn't try to be funny. But there's still that sidelong glance when they manage to occupy the couch at the same time.

In the dark, Woohyun doesn't sing. He moans and grunts, all rough sounds and no melodic tune when Hoya's hands, void of all coordination, frantic and excited, are all over his body. There's an excited gasp from Woohyun when he comes and a timely climax from Hoya, and it's back to songs and dances and who they're supposed to be. Two minutes after, Hoya's slipping back into his pants and Woohyun into his shirt.

A minute after, they're both back to their sleeping bags, with Sunggyu and Sungjong snug against them.

"Doing a few more rounds?" Woohyun asks Hoya after one of their vocal practices. "Any harder and you won't be able to sing anymore."

Hoya smiles smugly. "That's your job, not mine."

"Whatever."

Woohyun turns on his heel to leave, waving goodbye. When he looks over his shoulder, he doesn't meet Hoya's eyes that dart to his direction when he's already turning the door knob around six seconds after, but they don't need eye contact for confirmation.

They already know what to do.
