Title: Something so simple
Pairing: HanHae (Donghae-centric)
Rating: PG
Genre: Angst, fluff (ending, yay!)
Summary: There're always times when one feels like giving up... and we just hope that someone, just anyone, could just reach out a trusting hand to help us back onto safe and hard gravity ground.

A young man huddled himself at a corner of the room, crying, hiccups making it hard for him to catch his breath. He bit his bottom lip and put a hand at his mouth as he tried to hold in his sobs, he wouldn’t want to wake his roommate. This has been going on for weeks, and he was surprised he still had tears to keep it going. He hugged his knees tightly to his chest as he sought for an anchor to the world he was coming to hate.

Nothing was enough. He mused. Nothing is ever enough. No matter how much he gave, how much he did… Nothing will ever be enough.

He stared into the empty darkness in front of him as his sobs gradually died down. His throat felt raw from the emotions, and his eyes stung from the acid of the tears. Taking in a deep shuddering breath, he hugs himself tighter as the chill around the room became more and more overwhelming.

With the turmoil in him slowly dissipating, he got up from his fetal position against the cornered wall and moved towards, back to his bed. The muscles in his body stretched, ached and tingle slowly into nothingness as he padded as silently as he could, not wanting to disturb the other’s sleep. The springs in the bed creaked as he sat on it. Arranging the covers as he pulled them over his body, he shuts his eyes and turned onto his side. It was as if the covers were the only thing left that could give him warmth and promise him security.

“Hae?”

Said person jerked his eyes open at his name. The other man on the opposite bed was staring at him, and Donghae knew it because the only thing he could see in the dark room was a pair of glimmering orbs. He too was huddled into the covers in the same fashion as him.

“Are you all right?”

Donghae hesitated for a mere second, before nodding.

Both men just stared as if pondering on what to do next. However, that was before Donghae decided to go back to sleep before the sun break into the horizon again. Starting yet, another dreadful day…

Just when he was nearly slipping back into the languid arms of sleep, a cool touch suddenly interfered and landed on his cheek. Shocked, Donghae opened his eyes and peered up at the figure towering over him. Those eyes seemed to shine even more brightly.

“You cried?”

Donghae felt his breath hitch as though he was caught stealing from a cookie jar. He has never been one to show his vulnerability, because he hates to show the weak side of him. Anything can change, but not that fact.

Both men said nothing, so the figure sat himself onto his bed. Stroking his hair and brushing at the soft strands, he let his hand come to rest finally at the area under his eye. Stroking his thumb gently and softly over his cheek, “It’s all right.”

The soft whisper was all it took to make Donghae’s chin wobble and his eyes to start watering again. “Hannie--“ His voice left him on a trembling note.

“Shh, I know.”

Donghae shuts his eyes at the soothing tone of the other man, and let his tears fall. Drop by drop, as they lead a trail down his delicate face. It was calm that washed over him, and he felt his nerves loosening at every word that escaped Hangeng’s mouth.

Hangeng frowned in concern at his friend. Something was bothering him and he is not talking. He has been crying by himself for weeks but still, he’s not talking. He had always wanted to ask, to say something, but he hadn’t know what or how to.

Donghae moved closer and laid his head on Hangeng’s lap. Hugging him tight at the waist and clutching at the tank top he was wearing, he let his emotions take over. He could feel Hangeng’s hand stroke his back as he whispered words of comfort and assurance. Tears washed his face, and down onto the sweatpants his friend wore.

Donghae pulled slightly away, not wanting to be too far from the comfort that was so willingly offered, to look up into the glimmering depths that seemed to pull him in. “Thank you.” Donghae heard his voice broke.

Hangeng smiled down at his friend and brushed both his thumbs over tear stained cheeks. “I’ll be there, Donghae. Don’t lock me outside. Talk to me.”

Donghae felt his whole persona suddenly brighten up at those simple words. He felt lighter. The urge to smile seemed to rush to him, and so he gave in to it. “Thank you.”

“No need for that. Now,” Hangeng’s voice strained a little as he lifted Donghae into his arms.

“Wha-“

Staggering a bit before standing firm, Hangeng chirped. “Let’s get you some sleep, shall we?”

Donghae blinked and looked at his friend in confusion. He put his arms around his neck when Hangeng carried him bridal style in his arms. Finding it ridiculous, he suddenly threw back his head and laughed an airy string of melody. “What are you doing?”

“Why, putting you to bed, of course.”

Hangeng replied as-a-matter-of-factly and tucked Donghae into his bed before he could protest. Climbing in after him, he put his arms around the younger man and hugged him close.

Donghae blinked at the motion, he tensed up at the closeness between their bodies. It wasn’t as if they had never been this close together before, but for some reason, Donghae just felt awkward suddenly. It was only a few moments later did he let himself relax when he heard Hangeng gave a soft sigh above him.

Snuggling against the warm body, Donghae let his head rest on Hangeng’s chest and listened as his heart beats a calm and strong rhythm. He reached his arm over and laid it loosely over the other’s waist.

Lupp-dupp... Lupp-dupp…

Once again, Donghae slowly drifted off. This time, he was smiling, and couldn’t wait to welcome for the first time, a sunny day.
