A/N: Here you go, STEF! It's short, but I hope you'll like it. ^^
This was inspired by MJ's Break Of Dawn, I LOVE this song. :)
The occasional sparkles of mischief, the glow of passion, those orbs that portrayed compassion and love, the magic in your eyes, and the innocence like that of a child that buries deep in the soul where no one knew…
Only I knew.
Donghae stared into blank space as memories flashed past as if they were right before his eyes. His heart was pulsating heavily and yet quite calmly as he thought of the past. The mixed emotions that always leave him baffled. Was it love, or longing? Or was it just a phase where things let him get used to them only to leave him suddenly like the gust of wind. Maybe it was a little of everything, he just don’t know anymore.
“Here you go, Donghae-sshi.”
Donghae snapped back to reality as the waiter brought his usual order of chocolate sundae topped with fresh fruits and whipped cream.
“Thank you.” He smiled at the waiter who blushed before walking away.
Donghae smirked at the simple gesture before he got trapped in his thoughts again. The one and only person he wanted never showed any of that, and yet so many others are more than willing to just exchange a little smile with him.
He sniffled and picked up the dessert spoon laid on the table before him, and started digging into the pleasurable treat.
He used to love this.
Donghae jerkily put the spoon to his mouth before swallowing it in a single gulp, not bothering to chew on the soft fruits. He never liked sweet stuff, but ever since the meeting of him, he gradually grew to love them.
The bell rang as someone entered the dessert café. Donghae looked up and instantly felt the world spin around him. It felt as if seconds stopped ticking, and time ceased to progress. He felt giddy from the onslaught of emotions that erupted within him as the person turned and saw… him.
He could see him mouth his name before blinking and averting his gaze to anywhere but him. It was as if he was unsure of what to do next from his fidgeting and nervous bobbing of his larynx.
Donghae did a little tilt of his head, gesturing for the person to take the seat opposite of him.
“H-Hi.”
“Hi.” Donghae muttered in reply.
“…”
“H-how have you been?”
“Never been better. What about you?”
The person winced slightly at the slight bite of hurt in Donghae’s reply. “I-I have been great. Thank you.”
“…”
“Hyukjae…”
“Yes?” Said person jerked his head up at the mention of his name.
Donghae looked deep into his eyes. He knew he had to let him know somehow, “I’m happy for you.”
Hyukjae felt himself draw in a breath, held it for several seconds, before expelling it. He smiled. “Thank you.”
Donghae smiled back in reply, and no more words were needed between the two men because both knew better than to ruin the peace and understanding that finally subsided between them.
In the beautiful break of dawn, the call of insects and birds sounded through the tranquil darkness, little drops of dew tipped at the edges of the leaves, and life starts to stir in the city. Everything seemed in place except for one thing.
There’s no sun up in the sky, for you are gone from my life.
