*hugs* My grandmother died a bit over a year ago.

How do you pass a pack test?

::hugs back:: The hardest part is getting into my mind the idea I really won't ever see her again.

A pack test involves wearing a 45-lb vest and walking 3 miles in 45 minutes. Surprisingly difficult, actually.

Hey, remember that Sailor Moon CD you burned me with Sailor Saturn on the front? Well, the label finally fell off. Very sad. It made me miss you. Speaking of which, wanna come to the con this year? Last weekend in May! And Melissa will be there, if you ever had the chance to meet her. (You know you wanna come!)

Unfortunately, I do have a great deal of experience with death and funerals, so maybe I can offer a bit of advice. Get yourself this book, and maybe get a copy for your mom, too. I personally found it very helpful and have read it several times over the years. And call me whenever you want to talk. I love you.

Heh. Turns out my cousin the Rabbi just gave my grandpa a copy, and I've been skimming it. D'you know why we put stones on the headstones of graves?

Thanks for calling yesterday. I'll probably call you again at some point, but don't hold your breath. I love you too.

We place the stones there as a symbol that the grave has been visited by the family, but I'm sure that it has some deeper symbolic significance as well.
I'm around whenever you want/need to talk, no breath -holding will be involved. Be well, and hug everyone from me.

****hugs for A****

You already know what I think happens after death.. Sorry if it isn't very consoling.

But I think your grandmother is okay, because she loved and was loved. That's the main thing.

****more hugs for A and Mom****

When my grandfather died I read the poem Thanatopsis by William Cullen Bryant at the funeral and then put a copy in the grave (I also did this for my dog who died the same day, but that's beside the point). I thought it helped, and my family seemed to like it too, but you know my family... And that wasn't exactly a normal funeral either...

I gave a eulogy that had most everybody crying and laughing at the same time. I guess I really am good at giving speeches. I'm glad I got to do it-- it would have made Grandma really happy. If you ever want to hear about a Jewish funeral, we could share stories. I got to ride in a limo!

...which would have been more fun had I not been going to a funeral.
