Fortran is a programming language, unix/linux is an operating system (like windows or MacOS), and shell scripting is sorta one of the things you do to make it work - also a programming language.
None of that is really... easy... and I'm not sure how you'd practice it without a Linux computer.
BUT! You can probably head over to B&N and flip through some computer books.

You can use the search box on that site to search for "unix" and "linux" and "shell script" to get a good idea of what they entail.
