I'm sitting pretty, and somewhat dusty here in San Pedro de Atacama, together with Clarabr at a verrrry slow cybercafe, and I have the following to report. You know how the Atacama is the driest place on earth? Well, it really, really is dry. Like no water. No rain, no humidity dry. And it occurs to me that I take really incredible care of my lips ( Read more... )

actually, I used some burt's bees lipstick/balm today and it didn't work well! I'm back to shea butter tomorrow, or blistex melon flavor with spf 15.

was there in 1993, when at 6 p.m. they would switch off the electricity every evening. traveling to El Tatio gave me an acute hearing loss, but other than that i really enjoyed it ;-) was the first and only time i saw vicunas outside a zoo in their natural environment...

Have to say that as a non-Spanish speaker, I'd be a whole lot more likely to buy Protector Gargantal than protector labial.

LOL!
That's a crazy idea with a catchy name, but it'll only work for tourists since your throat gets used to the dryness. Now that I think about it, I never had any dry throat problems when I went to the pampa...

You missed some ugly rain here. Hug the desert for me.

I can't believe you're there! I really wish I were there right now!! Other Niamh and were there for a few days! I forgot about they way they turn off the electricity! ha! How are you handling the altitude? It's not very high up but I remember being a little woosy! Are you gonna go on from there? we did a great trip to the salt flats from there! not too expensive and it was really fun!

there is now electricity 24 hours a day, but only cash in the cash machine about once a week! The altitude was okay for the first couple of days, but on day three on the way back from the geyser I wanted to take a couple of deep breaths every now and then to get fully saturated with oxygen. I took a jog around at the geysers, and was quickly counselled to stay still (by one of the guards). I want to go to Salar de Uyuni, and do a four day jeep type thing over to Bolivia sometime, but didn't have enough time this trip (nor a passport). Next time, next time.
