The news makes it look pretty scary in places. Fires and demonstrations all over the city. Be safe! I asked a Chilean friend how she felt about Pinochet's death, and she said, "It wasn't painful enough!" 'Nuff said!
It doesn't seem very scary from where I sit, which is quite close to La Moneda, though not as close as when I'm at work. It's mainly the same people who ever protest and set fire to things who are doing so again now. Vandals and thieves and such. At least when the kids did the school takeover there was a partial solution available. What solution is there to this?
I heard helicopters last night at a friend's house in Vitacura, close to the hospital where Pinochet died. That did make me kind of nervous, but mainly because I was remembering how I felt when we heard helicopters flying overhead in DC after our Sept. 11th. What a complex world we live in!
