Coming to Boston

Nov 07, 2005 15:37

Monday. RP-thread to Angel and the Immortal:Buffy has never been to Boston before. She has never even been on the East Coast, except for a few stopovers in New York, on the way to Europe and back. The first thing she notices getting off the airplane is that (1) it is really damn cold and (2) the people here don't even REALIZE it's cold. Before ( Read more... )

Angel has gotten used to Boston's weather. He's learned to wear sweaters and he always has his leather coat. When you spend a couple centuries always being cold, you learn to adapt to your climate.

He's been pacing at the baggage claim, checking his watch, and watching the display to see if Buffy's flight will be on time or not. He's pretty sure airport security is watching him funny. It must be because of the coat.

He spots her immediately and isn't sure how to greet her. Does he hug her? Just say hi? This is awkward.

"Buffy. How was your flight?" He asks and just stands there. Because this is awkward.

Oh God, he looks awkward. She doesn't remember their last meeting being this awkward. In fact, that meeting had led to grabbing and kissing. Well, it probably had something to do with him coming upon her in the heat of a battle, when she could just follow her instincts.

Their meetings, it seems, are only awkward when they have time to think.

She's thinking way too much, and then she sees her bags coming up on the luggage conveyer belt. She reaches out to hand Angel her heavy carryon, though as soon as she starts, it occurs to her that it might look like she's trying to hug him. So she pulls up short and drops the bag on his foot.

OOps.

The thing about being human is that his reflexes are a lot slower than they used to be. Angel thought she was going to hug him or possibly pass her bag to him. He didn't expect the bag, the very heavy bag, to drop on his foot.

"Ow-I'll get that," He says, bending down to pick up the bag. He's not going to wince. It's just a bag and human or not, he's a big (not fat!) guy who is perfectly capable of helping his ex-girlfriend with her luggage.

At least he's concentrating on his throbbing foot so he can't be struck by how awkward their greeting was. Right. Greet her! It's easier when they are fighting demons. At least she'll get to see him in the sun. He looks good in the sun. Darla says he does.

"You look good. LA must agree with you. How's Anne?" Is he talking too much? Maybe he's talking to much. He should be more quiet and broody.

"Sorry." Buffy winces. "I guess I brought a lot of stuff."

While there must be some attraction to Angel's broodiness -- clearly -- Buffy secretly adores the moments when he starts babbling like a dork. It makes her feel like they have something in common.

She heads for the conveyer and moves to lift both of her very large bags. Some people are looking at Angel, limping while carrying her relatively small carryon, while Buffy hefts the big bags to her shoulder. Buffy doesn't notice.

"Anne's OK. I think she works too hard. She's also had some problems with her shelter's legal status since they're not protected by Wolfheart any more. I thought I'd talk to Todd's lawyer while I'm in town. I --"

She hesitates because they've just reached an area of the lounge bathed in sunlight from the huge plate glass window. She can't help looking at Angel. The next step they take together is going to be interesting.
