lost my faith in the summer-time

Highly recommended: Unrequited by Anais (notmonkey) - the four chapters so far are linked at the bottom of this contents page. Brilliant characterisations of MWPP + Lily. Looks a bit like a Remus-wants-Sirius/Sirius-wants-James/James-wants-Lily story, but the ships are hardly relevant in a way cos IT IS SO GOOD.

Wonder why nobody in the_kennel took up their pranking ( Read more... )

Interesting that you mention the pranking challenge, because I was also amazed nobody did it. I can't speak for anyone else, but I didn't take it up because it was also a competition. If it had been a straight challenge, I'd have gone for it. But when there's prizes and so on, it makes it too much like work, stress and ultimate pain and disappointment.

But, and this may apply to others in the_kennel too, I'm actually working on the fic now, and it may be ready for next year's challenge...

Yes, that makes a lot of sense. It's a lovely gesture to have a prize, but the competitive element does take the fun out of things. I do love the_kennel, though - just about all my fave R/S writers in one handy package - and sometimes wish they'd merge with shacking_up so there'd be one uber-comm of brilliance, but it prolly wouldn't work.

I'm glad you're still working on the fic! If you finish it I might tickle your underfins again. (Er, that's meant to be an incentive, btw :-))

Well, I like to paraphrase and say, 'The Kennel talks only to Shacking Up, and Shacking Up talks only to God', as with the Lodges and the Cabots. I think the_kennel is going for the more recent writers as well, and the wonderful rec system means you get a wide cross-section. shacking_up always seems to stick fairly rigidly to a few of the tried and tested names, and they're only added two authors, I think, in the past year. It's just a bit too exclusive, and no, that's not sour grapes! the_kennel was long, long overdue.

The fic was going fine, till another of those angsty bunnies came along at dinner last night. I wish they wouldn't attack at meals! So the Prankster fic is on ice at the moment, though it will be done. And you can tickle my underfins any time... :D

I don't know how much this applies to others, but I just ran out of time. My muses all went belly-up mid-April and all I've got is “Tyranny!” Sirius howled, rain running down his face. “Tyranny and injustice!”

Of course, by that point, I'd decided that I probably wouldn't enter it as a contest entry, mainly because nobody else was playing and I would have felt a bit off being the only entry in a competition. It will still be written, though, because it's going to huge and fun. (And also because I got a community invite but it was while I was out of fandom in March and it seems to have expired and life is just too hectic at the moment to work out how I managed that *facepalm*)

I was looking forward to reading other people's takes on it though.

That would be I am actively involved in an online writing community, offering support and constructive criticism to amateur writers. ^_^ I love CV-ese.

>huge and fun

Those words make me go all a-quiver with anticipation. Write it quick! Never mind RL or anything...tsk! :-) Pleased to hear you got an invite to that community, you deserve it.

Your fluent CVspeak is impressive. *earnestly copies and pastes*

Honestly, at my last job interview I told them with a dead straight face that I wrote short stories in my spare time; they love that sort of stuff. Just don't use the word 'porn'.

Remus-wants-Sirius/Sirius-wants-James/James-wants-Lily stories make me sad, wah.

They didn't seem to have reminders or anything, so it isn't surprising if people forgot it. Still, as minnow_53 suggested, the polling thing might've put people off a bit.

>half written

Oh, cool! I hope you'll finish it, cos fics with pranks are always fun.
