Harry’s not sure when, exactly, Draco Malfoy became the most important thing in his life.

Hermione insists that Harry’s been obsessed with Malfoy since at least sixth year, but Harry’s not sure about that. He may have seemed obsessed, but he’d had good reason to be concerned with Malfoy then. Besides, he’d been right, hadn’t he?

Ron says it was when Malfoy came to Grimmauld Place. Harry had never hated Malfoy more than the moment he first saw Malfoy standing in the kitchen, looking panicked and desperate. There’d been nothing for it though; Malfoy had nowhere else to go. Harry had done his best to ignore Malfoy, even if it hadn’t worked so well. They’d done nothing but fight worse than ever before.

That’s how Harry knows Ron’s wrong. After all, Harry’d spent most of their time at Grimmauld Place wanting to kill Malfoy, so Malfoy couldn’t have possibly been that important to him. No, Harry’s sure that this is something new, something that started after the war was over.

Ginny swears she knew the first time Harry and Malfoy ever actually got along. They’d been at a horribly dull Ministry party. Harry can’t remember what the party was for or why Ron and Hermione weren’t there, but he knows that if it hadn’t been so mind-numbingly boring he never would have spoken to Malfoy. They’d have kept to the usual routine of ignoring each other as pointedly as possible. But it was that boring and Malfoy had made some random remark about Quidditch and somehow they’d managed to have a perfectly friendly conversation.

Of course, it had only lasted about five minutes, but Ginny says that was enough for her. Enough to finally make her give up on Harry because it was obvious that she’d never really have a chance.

Harry thinks that’s ridiculous. Sure, he and Ginny wouldn’t have worked out in the end, but he’d barely managed to be nice to Malfoy for just those few moments.

Harry’s not sure when, exactly, Draco Malfoy became the most important thing in his life, but he has a few ideas.

He thinks it might have the first time Harry’d thought of him as Draco instead of Malfoy and hadn’t even realized it. Or it might have been the first time Draco had kissed him. Draco never seemed to be nervous about anything, but he had been then. Harry’d been both surprised and pleased to feel that nervousness. That was how he’d known that Draco was serious, that he meant it.

It might have been the first time they’d had sex. The moment Harry’d felt Draco’s tight body clenching around his cock and Draco’s come slick and warm between them he’d known that he wanted to be able to keep doing that with Draco for as long as possible.

It might have been the first time Draco told Harry he loved him. He’d whispered it one night, thinking Harry was asleep. When Harry had said it back Draco had been so startled he’d fallen off the bed.

Harry’s not sure when, exactly, Draco Malfoy became the most important thing in his life, but it doesn’t really matter.
