...Well, does anyone know why Mr. Kent was staring at the Christmas presents so intently?

Uh, yeah. Long story short, he's a superhero from another world, like the rest of us. One of his powers is 'X-Ray Vision'... which is why he's staring: he's looking to see what's inside.
