If Conor Oberst learned how to sing, he'd be unequivocally hailed as the greatest modern singer/songwriter. I mean, he's already been compared to Dylan and he's only 24. It's a shame, really. I can understand why people can't get past his voice. It served him well on "Fevers and Mirrors" (fit the mood of the album), but it's more of a detrimental ( Read more... )

Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Tom Waits...three great writers who really shouldn't be allowed to sing by most standards. Personally, I love Tom Waits's voice, but Tom Petty and Bob Dylan...they should write music for other artists.

I'll have to check this Conor Oberst fellow out.

Fevers and Mirrors overrules all Bright Eyes CDs, but that's just me, haha. I could see why you would start to enjoy both "Digital Ash in a Digital Urn" and "I'm Wide Awake" more, probably because of the way Bright Eyes (or rather, Conor himself) has in a way revolutionzed their music. I don't exactly fully comprehend why the majority of his listeners don't particularly favor his voice, because quite honestly, I love the way he whines, moans and even whispers in his songs. Anyhow, I don't really know where I'm going with this comment, just thought I'd say something to someone who really appreciates Conor for his music and not his looks- those are few in numbers nowadays.
