Match
o1. Match
He remembered when Kazu had walked through the door and visibly flinched. Granted, he couldn’t blame him. Who really expects to see the man who beat you up sitting in the living room of your best friend’s house?
Sano appreciated the sentiment. Good to see that, once in a while, he had an impact on someone else’s life.
He couldn’t help but smile. “Nice to see you, Kazu-kun.”
“Hn.” Kazu pointed upwards and Sano nodded. The younger boy bolted up the stairs to talk to his friend and perhaps add some impacts of his own into Ikki’s skull, crow and all.
o2. Friction
Cherry lips shined by the newest Sephora lipgloss. Bright, dancing eyes due to Revlon’s mascara. Curved waist and wide hips defined by ripped H&M jeans.
He studied Ringo’s form instead of the homework in front of him as she stood at the counter, preparing dinner for the family. (Well, as close of a family as he could gather judging by the eclectic people within it.) Her pigtails bopped as she tossed the salad into the air, catching it skillfully back into the bowl.
“Move, Ume!”
“No way!”
“Move the fuck over!”
“No!”
In front of the TV sat Mikan and Ume, who had found the joys of MarioKart. They had also refused to play DoubleDash, realizing that it meant playing as a team.
“No… What? Honey, I can’t… I can’t hear you.” Rika walked into the living room, her hand covering the speaker of a phone. “Both of you shut up!”
Sano found it highly ironic that the body type he had so often tried to avoid surrounded him.
He sighed, closing his books. It wasn’t likely that he would get work done in here and his own room, the new addition to the house, wasn’t sound proofed…yet.
“I’m going to the library.”
“But dinner’s almost done!” Ringo called over her shoulder.
I’ll eat out… “As much as I would enjoy your cuisine, I have to get my work done.” He headed towards the door.
“Oi!” Ikki ran down the stairs, Akito in hot pursuit. “Are Kazu and Onigiri here yet?”
“Hmm?” Sano opened the door.
Slouched shoulders. Sharp jaw. Defiant eyes, half hidden by a row of blond hair and a skull cap.
On second thought…
He placed a hand on the doorframe and leaned over. “Still nice to see you, Kazu-kun.”
“Ah, shit!” Mikan swore as she was hit by a turtle shell and exploded.
o3. Heat
Emily looked up at “Kazu-sama” expectantly. “Walk me home after track club?”
“Sure.”
He sat behind the wheel of his car, adjusting his glasses. Emily, with her sailor school uniform and bright smile, was obviously flirting with Kazu. And Kazu was eating it up.
It was obvious that there was a connection around them. A security and familiarity that Sano couldn’t match. She chatted him up, folding her arms and nodding. Kazu would return the favor by placing a hand behind his head, scraping the toe of his dirty sneaker on the pavement. She would, in turn, blush terribly. Once in a while, she would punch his shoulder as he made a crude joke.
It wasn’t that Sano was a stalker…per se… but he was curious.
Even from this distance he could tell Emily wasn’t a stupid girl. Far from it. Her whole posture and presence showed she wasn’t just another girl…
Pity.
It wasn’t his fault that the line between gay pedophilia and an appreciation for the male form with no regard to age was so thin.
Sano threw his head back and laughed at the thought, accidentally beeping the horn of his car.
Kazu jumped at the sound and turned back to see Sano and for a second he wondered if the Iron Clock had just hit him in the face. Again.
Sano smiled.
Ikki finally came out of the school, Ringo in tow. “What are you doing here?”
A cough. “I’m here to pick you up.”
“Kazu! We have practice today!” Out of nowhere, Onigiri got close to the couple, squishing himself between them. “So no walking home, hand in hand. No kisses today, chuu~”
Emily’s face turned a hot red. “Shut up!” she yelled, before Onigiri found himself turned right-side up.
Sano saw Kazu’s shoulders slump slightly and almost felt bad.
Almost.
He smiled at Kazu. “Get in.”
o4. Smoke
“There will be the day when he’ll surpass even you, Sano.” The Iron Clock didn’t have to turn to know the current Spitfire stood behind him.
Sano looked at his former comrade before turning his gaze back to the practicing A-T group before him. They had decided on an empty lot for the day next to a parking garage with a good wall scale. Currently, the members of Kogarasumaru doing suicides, as directed by Agito.
“And you say this because…?”
Spitfire folded his arms. “You saw it, didn’t you?”
Yes, I saw it. He thought, somewhat smugly. I was part of it. I was the cause
“And you know,” Spitfire said carefully, “There may be the day I take him from you because of it.”
Sano pursed his lips, but said nothing.
o5. Fire
Sano wasn’t a stalker. …At least he was convincing himself that he wasn’t.
But he couldn’t deny that the sight of Kazu doubled over, sweat pouring down his face and into his eyes, face flushed from exhaustion… wasn’t a little exciting to watch.
Kazu panted, sweat dripping down his nose as he doubled over. “Shit!” He punched the wall. His action reminded Sano of the events that had unfolded earlier today.
“Kazu!” Ikki cried out, skating over to his friend and helping him to his feet. There were holes in his pants from the fall off of the wall he was trying to climb.
He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth. “I’m fine. I’ll do it this time.”
“Let go of him, Ikki.” Agito sneered at him. “You’re done for today.”
“But-“
“You’re done!” He sharply squared his jaw. “When you’re mind is on A-T, come back. Otherwise, get out of my face.” With that, he skated away.
And there the boy was, after practice, after dinner, skating as fast as he could up an unrelenting wall and failing every single time.
“Kazu-kun.” Sano walked over to the broken man leaning against the wall.
Through cracked lips, Kazu smiled. “Bastard.”
“You were nothing but reckless.”
“Was I?” He leaned his head back on the wall.
“You didn’t notice?”
“I have a lot on my mind. Recklessness is the least of my worries.”
He shook his head. “It seems like it’s the forefront.”
Kazu decided it was best not to comment to that and allowed Sano to bend down and meet Kazu’s skates. The A-Ts weren’t shattered, but it didn’t look as if he would be skating on them soon.
“Are you hurt?”
“No.” He gingerly stood up, bracing the wall behind him. His knee, which was already bandaged, was torn up again. Sano stood to meet him, carefully wrapping an arm around him for balance.
“Once in a while a broken wing isn’t the end of the world.”
“Yeah?” He gulped the night air into his lungs. “Do something about it.”
Sano smiled, pressing his mouth against Kazu’s ear, inhaling the smell of salt and bubblegum, the smell of middle school boys that lingered on his neck. “Such as?”
Kazu looked at him, challenging him, almost goading him on with a sneer on his lips. “Whatever.”
He hadn’t meant to do anything, actually. Really, he hadn’t. It was probably out of wanting to prove the boy wrong that he did something at all instead of holding himself at bay. But when he tilted the boy’s chin towards his mouth, he couldn’t help but lean forward to meet his lips.
“I’m sorry.” He said, pulling away.
“As you should be.” Kazu hesitated before tilting his head again to press his mouth into Sano’s once more, breaking it off on his own terms. “You should have done that sooner.”
Sano smiled again, helping the boy into the car. He was completely ignited by him, but he'd have to be careful. One day he just might burn.
