Character Notes/History: Yuna is a seventeen year old Summoner who is daughter to an unnamed Al-Bhed woman (who died when Sin attacked her ship while at sea) and High Summoner Braska. Yuna’s mother was the sister of Cid who was father to Rikku and Brother, which makes them Yuna’s cousins. A unique trait of Yuna is heterochromia, which means her eyes are two different colors. Her left eye is blue, and her right is a shade of green that is very similar to that of the Al-Bhed.

Yuna was raised by her father (Braska) in Bevelle. When Yuna was around the age of seven, Braska decided to become a Summoner and do his part to ease the suffering of Spira, and bring about the Calm. He enlisted the help of two men, Auron and Jecht, as his Guardians. With these two and himself, he began his pilgrimage to the temples throughout Spira, aquiring the Aeons from each until his final destination in the ruined city of Zanarkand. While on the island of Besaid, he requests that when the pilgrimage is over, Auron take Yuna to the island so that she may have a normal childhood. However, at the end of the pilgrimage Auron is wounded and his quest is bestowed upon a Rhonso named Kimahri.

Kimahri dutifully follows through with the quest; journeying to Bevelle to find Yuna so that he can bring her safely to Besaid. Once his task is complete, he attempts to take his leave, but the young Yuna pleads with him to stay, and he complies. While in Besaid, Yuna becomes very close friends with LuLu and Wakka, and is viewed as a little sister by the two. Eventually, Yuna decides to follow in her fathers footsteps and become a summoner. LuLu and Wakka are both unable to change her mind, and, after an enormous amount of spiritual preparation Yuna, LuLu and Kimahri travel through the Besaid Cloister of Trials. Once there, she begins praying to the faith to allow her to become a Summoner.

One day later, Yuna leaves the fayth as a summoner. Yuna’s training to become a summoner is complete once she summons the Aeon Valefor. She then begins a trip to Kilika with Wakka, Lulu, Kimahri and Tidus (who claims he is from Zanarkand, which is in ruins). However, thanks to her own encounters with Jecht (who was one of her fathers Guardians), Yuna is the only person who believes right away that Tidus does actually come from Zanarkand (besides than Rikku and Auron, who was the one that brought Tidus from there in the first place). At this point in thegame, Yuna's only three guardians are Wakka, Lulu, and Kimahri. Once at Kilika, Yuna performs her first sending, and as a result she obtains the Aeon Ifrit.

The next stop is Luca, and once there Yuna hears a rumor that her father's guardian, Auron, is somewhere in the city. She decides to search, taking Kimahri and Tidus with her just before the opening Blitzball match. Unfortunately, Kimahri gets into a fight with two other Ronso, and Yuna ends up kidnapped by the Al Bhed, who are holding out hope that it will make the Besaid Aurochs lose to them. Tidus, Kimahri and Lulu do manage to rescue Yuna, and the Besaid Aurochs win their first match in 10 years. At this city Auron becomes one of Yuna's guardians, as well as Tidus.

While the group is en route to Djose Temple, Yuna is caught up in Operation Mi'ihen, where she meets Seymour Guado, and witnesses Sin kill most of the participating Crusaders. Once she reaches Djose Temple, Yuna meets the summoner Isaru and receives the aeon Ixion.

On the Moonflow (a river that separates Spira's main continent into two halves), Yuna is yet again kidnapped by the Al Bhed (that has to get old). This time, however, the machine is underwater, so Tidus and Wakka go down to rescue her. Later, the group realizes the pilot of the machine was really Rikku (Yuna’s cousin), who becomes Yuna's final guardian. Once at Guadosalam, Seymour actually proposes to Yuna, and before making a final decision, she decides to visit the Farplane first. However, when the group return from the Farplane, they discover that Seymour has left for Macalania Temple, so they proceed to follow him.

On the way to Macalania temple, they cross the Thunder Planes, and while they do so, Yuna observes the contents of a Sphere left to her by Seymour's father while she was in the Farplane. Through the sphere, she learns that Seymour killed his own father. Because of this information, Yuna decides to play at marriage in order to get Seymour to confess. This, of course, backfires when her guardians decide to intervene, and the group ends up killing Seymour, resulting in them being chased out of the temple by the Guado who are now out to kill the ones who killed their leader. Yuna and the others escape just in time for them to be trapped under the ice. After they are saved by Sin, who is under Jecht's influence, most of the party is taken to Bikanel Island where Rikku leads them to her home. However, the Guado are launching an attack on the Al Bhed home, which is in the midst of being completely destroyed. In an attempt to get away so they can locate Yuna, the guardians board an airship and escape. Yuna was left behind by Sin and was therefore captured by the Guado and forced to marry an Unsent Seymour. She would, however, use this opportunity for a chance to send him once and for all, since she knows it is a summoner's duty to lead the dead to where they belong. When Yuna’s guardians show up to try and rescue her from the forced marriage, Yuna is stopped by Mika, who threatened to force the Warrior Monks to kill her friends if she continues on with the sending.

Yuna (reluctantly) agrees to finish the marriage ceremony to save her friends, but, when Seymour decides to have them killed anyway, she threatens to commit suicide by jumping off the church unless he frees them. When Seymour tells her that the idea is foolish, she wipes his kiss off of her lips with utter disdain, and then proceeds to jump anyway, saving herself by summoning the winged aeon Valefore. Yuna then escapes to Bevelle's Chamber of the Fayth, where she receives her next aeon, Bahamut. Her guardians once again follow her, but the group is caught, and she is tried for murder and treason. She manages to escape execution by fleeing Macalania Woods with her guardians.

Yuna’s faith in Yevon was shaken, and while in Macalania Woods, she goes off to the spring to be alone with Kimahri in tow. Tidus follows after her, unhindered by the rest of the group. He now knows the truth behind the Final Summoning and that it will cost Yuna her life, and he apologizes for his eagerness to defeat Sin and giving her false hope that they would be able to see his Zanarkand. He believed he had only caused her stress with these words, but Yuna tells him that he had, in fact, made her happy. Tidus tries to convince her to quit her pilgrimage and stay with him. Yuna considers it at first, but her sense of duty to the rest of Spira is too great, and she resolves to go on and continue her pilgrimage. The burdens that Yuna has been hiding rise to the surface, and she begins to cry. Tidus kisses her and assures her that he will always remain by her side no matter what happens.

Yuna and company then travel to the ruins of Zanarkand, where she defies what the other summoners have done and kills Yunalesca, so she does not have to sacrifice one of her guardians to be the Final Aeon for her. Yuna then seeks out Grand Maester Mika in order to find out the truth about Sin. When she learns the truth of Sin's rebirths, the group concocts a plan to engage Sin head-on and venture inside to defeat the monstrous ‘Summoner’ at its core, Yu Yevon. Yuna uses all the Aeons she has been bestowed, and manages to defeat Sin once and for all, becoming the High Summoner of the Eternal Calm.

Unfortunately, the destruction of Sin and Yu Yevon comes at a heavy price: the death of Tidus, as he was a product of the Dream Zanarkand created by Yu Yevon. After a tearful farewell, Yuna tells Tidus that she loves him and, after embracing Yuna, Tidus leaps from the deck of the airship and enters the Farplane.

Though she is devastated by Tidus's death, Yuna informs the rest of Spira that she will aid in the reconstruction of the planet now that Sin is gone forever. She mentions him in her last speech, saying, "The people and the friends that we have lost... or the dreams that faded... never forget them."

Personality:
Yuna undergoes some major changes in her character and behavior over the course of the two games, but overall she is a very kind, , honest, loyal, and polite girl who strives to see the best in others. She has an extremely strong conviction, and follows through with whatever task she feels is her duty to finish.

At the beginning of her story, Yuna was a firm believer and follower of Yevon's teachings, and comes across as rather naïve. She is described by Auron as serious to a fault, and Yuna would regularly hide her own feelings of fear, sadness, and desperation while she encourages others to express themselves in her place. Yuna seems very willing to carry everyone else’s burdens in order ease their own pain, and was quite willing to sacrifice her own life, thus giving up any chance for her own happiness, in order to destroy Sin. However, her association with (and growing love for) Tidus caused Yuna to begin questioning Yevon's teachings and she became increasingly more direct and open.
