Wildfire! Or, welcome back to competitive, Type 2 magic.

John and I both had a free evening tonight. John and I decided this evening to head over to Collector's Cache and play in the free Friday Night Tournament there. It was the first time either of us had played in a constructed tournament in about 2 years. So I've got a deck I'd been itching to try out (for about 2 months) and John had just put something together. We got there, got our pairings, and I proceeded to drop nothing but lands in my first game. On the plus side, the other guy had no clue what to sideboard in against me. Game two went much better. I dropped a threat right before I played a Wildfire to destroy all his lands and creatures(which he didn't expect) and take control of the game. I had him locked down for about 8 turns, which should be enough for any reasonable deck to win the game. Unfortunately, my deck appears to be UNreasonable and I never drew into another threat (he killed my first threat in response to me destroying all of his lands). So I sat there, helplessly hoping to draw one of my 3 threats to finish him off, until finally he drew mor threats than I had removal and beat me. John won his first game, had a close game 2 (but lost) and never got past 2 lands in game three as his opponent finished him off. So our first trip back into competitive magic after 2 years off was less than admirable. But then we came back home, had a beer and played against each other (which was somewhat telling about just how bad our decks were).

Speaking of Wildfire, we had another grease fire in my toaster oven this morning. I was making a waffle and some of the grease left over from the garlic bread last weekend was still on the bottom of the toaster. So it catches on fire, I open the toaster to try to put it out, and the oxygen fans the flames. So I close the glass door and stand there, watching helplessly as my waffle is consumed by fire, until there isn't enough oxygen for the fire to continue and it burns itself out. At which point I had cereal for breakfast.

I've had several meetings this week, most of which went quite well. Class last night went very well. 60 people, which is a lot, came out and they were a very interactive bunch (which is good). Often a class of 60 won't get into it, but this one is just fine. Except for the one lady who answered her cell phone during class and proceeded to have a little conversation back there in the middle of class instead of leaving the room.

Well, I can hear the neighbor's child crying, which must mean it's bedtime. So I'll be off for now. Until next time, remember to not copy my decklist to play in a magic tournament.
